Publisher's summary

She's not looking for a mate.

Rhea is a warrior. She's fought for the Stavros wolf pack for over 100 years. When her past comes back to haunt her, she finds herself working side by side with the very man whose been starring in all her fantasies. But she never wants to get mated because she won't risk getting someone she cares for killed. Not again.

But he's playing for keeps.

Conall, Alpha of the Petronilla clan, has been biding his time claiming his future mate. At 1,500 years old he's patient and cunning. Except when he's around Rhea, years of civilization are stripped away and all he wants to do is make her his forever. But she's determined to keep walls between them. It's a good thing he's a dragon. He'll just burn down every last barrier and claim what's his. But someone from her past is threatening her pack - and the life of the woman he's waited a lifetime to make his own.

Shifters, vampires and dragons are real.

A year ago Liberty had no idea that things that go bump in the night actually existed. Saved from a Hell realm by a team of half-demons and a demigod, she finds herself falling for her sexy rescuer Rory more and more every day. She's worried she's too broken to ever have a relationship again, but the more time they spend together, the harder it is to deny her attraction.

And when they choose a mate, they don't give up easily.

Half-wolf, half-demon Rory has been looking out for Liberty ever since rescuing her from hell. And since she's the wedding planner for his half-brother's wedding, he sees her all the time. He's not sure what it's going to take to move from friend to more, but he's willing to wait forever if that's what it takes. Because Liberty is worth fighting for, and he'll do whatever it takes to make the brave survivor his.

You Need a Dragon in Your Life

Jeffery Kafer does an amazing job like always. I love the sound his voice. Anyway, I liked Into the Darkness. I'm super glad Rhea didn't push Conall to far. I do like Darkness books, because you never know what is going to pop next. There is always something knew awaiting. Plus, you want to start from the beginning, because there are some many characters that pop in out of the story. Also the story line builds upon each book.

From Friendship To Passion

Into the Darkness offers twice the danger and twice the passion. Rhea has worked hard to become a fierce warrior for the Stavros wolf pack. She was abused once and she will never let herself be a victim again. Her life is finally on track. Until she falls in love with a dragon. Rhea needs to be strong. She can't allow her desire to mate with Conall, Alpha of the Petronilla clan, put him in danger. She won't let anything happen to him because of her. Can Conall overcome her defenses and make her his? Next there is Liberty who was saved from a Hell realm. Rory was one of her rescuers. He has been at her side to help her recover, but the pain and fear have made her afraid. She knows that Rory, who is half-wolf and half-demon, would never hurt her and their is attraction is powerful. Can he convince her to be his? This was a suspenseful adventure that was made more exciting by the narration of Jeffrey Kafer. He makes the characters come alive. The setting is perfect, the pace lively and the plot intriguing. Who could ask for more? I know that when I read/listen to Katie Reus that I will be transported to the supernatural world where I will find heated sexual tension and stunning surprises.

'A-' rating...

My Review:
Overall: 4.25
Performance: 4.5
Story: 4.25

From the way the book description reads, it makes it sound like there are two totally separate books within the pages of this one. There are two stories, BUT they are wound together in the one book, so the point of view on all the events that are happening are jumping between the four main characters...AND a few of the PAST main characters, too. At this point in this series, I think I'm going to start needing flow charts to remember who is who and how they all relate to one another (the downside of listening to the books rather than reading them is that I don't retain the details like names as well).

So, anyway, I got off track right away on this review. Because there are two romantic stories within this one, this book is a bit longer than the others in this series have been, but it is just as good...if not better for it. I loved both these stories and sets of couples.

The amazingly good thing about this series is just how strong all the heroines are and I think the two in this book are my favorites so far. Rhea is a warrior within the wolf pack and she isn't sure she's good enough to mate with a dragon alpha (the most powerful of all the shifters). Then there's Liberty who's a human that the paranormals of the series found trapped in the demon realm where a human never should have been able to survive. I loved both of these really strong women because they are just everything that a heroine should be.

And Katie Reus paired them with equally great heroes. Basically, I loved all the characters in this one. It was simply a good, entertaining read. I definitely recommend it and the entire series. But don't worry, despite what I said earlier about needing a flow chart, the author does an incredible job making sure that each book works as a standalone read. You could pick up any of the stories at any time and be able to enjoy the couple's story. But for premium enjoyment, you're definitely going to want to read them all.

GOOD. VERY WELL NARRATED.

I like the romance between Rhea and Conall and Rory and Liberty. Rory's patience and understanding towards Liberty were commendable. Both romances were good. I hope there will more books for this series!

Vampires, Dragons & Shifters

What made the experience of listening to Into the Darkness the most enjoyable?

In order for me to really enjoy an audible book, I must not only enjoy the story but the narrators voice plays a huge part. Jeffrey Kafer and both Katie Reus did a fantastic job; Jeffrey did a great job portraying the characters and Katie Reus's writing was another hit in the park and it was another fantastic addition to this series. I can't wait to listen to the next one.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters are what made me enjoy the story. Of course the characters make the story and Jeffrey Kafer was great. I smiled, laughed and enjoyed the accents he did for not only Rory but also his brothers.

What does Jeffrey Kafer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The accents of the characters. When you read a story and the character have an accent, you have to imagine what it would sound like. What I imagined it sounded like was slightly different, but Jeffrey Kafer allowed you to hear what it sounds like, did a great job doing it, and I enjoyed it a lot.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely! When you find a book or a series of books you like to tend to devour it as fast as you can and this audible story was no different. I love paranormal reads and this book has it all, making it perfect for me.

Great Book!

Any additional comments?

This is a great book; this is the fifth book in the Darkness series by Katie Reus and narrated by Jeffrey Kafer. There are actually two stories in this book. A Demigod and a half demon are getting married, which means a week of festivities. Rhea is a warrior and has fought for the Stavros wolf pack for over a hundred years. She has decided to never get mated because she doesn’t want to put her mate as risk of getting hurt. What she isn’t expecting is to feel the pull and attraction she feels for Conall, the Alpha of a dragon clan. Conall, is the Alpha of the Petronilla clan and has been biding his time claiming his mate. However, he is ready to convince the stubborn woman that they are meant to be. Liberty is a human and never knew that supernatural being were real, this is until she was saved from a Hell realm by a team of half demons and demigods. Rory is half wolf and half demon and has been looking out for Liberty ever since she was rescued. He is determined to do anything to convince her that they are mates. If you are looking for a great paranormal romance, then you need to read this book.

The narrator Jeffrey Kafer did a wonderful job, and was very easy to listen too. He did a great job with the different characters and their voices.

If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I can’t wait to read the next book by this author. Once I started listening to this book, I didn’t want to stop until the end.

A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

Pretty good addition/conclusion to the series :)

3.5-4 stars

Pretty good story. This story revolves around the wedding celebrations between Bo and Nyx. During these celebrations, Rhea & Conall and Liberty & Rory get together.

Rhea is a wolf shifter that is part of Finn's pack (the hero of book #1). She's a warrior and tracker for the pack and likes being a strong woman. Part of the reason Rhea is determined to always be tough is because when she was younger, a stronger shifter male killed her fiance and kidnapped her. Rhea went through horrible things until she managed to kill the male and escape. Since she lost the man that was supposed to be her mate, Rhea hasn't allowed any men to get close and doesn't want a mate.

Conall is a dragon shifter (brother to Drake, hero from book #2) and alpha of his dragon clan. Conall was engaged to another dragon shifter a while back but she met another man and threw Conall over for him. Conall didn't love her so he wasn't emotionally hurt but he had no interest in finding a mate...at least until he meets Rhea.

Conall and Rhea met a while back but Conall could tell that Rhea wasn't willing to be pursued overtly so instead, he became her friend. They talked regularly and saw each other occasionally but with the wedding festivities, Conall ends up in town and around Rhea for well over a week. Rhea tries to hold up against her need for Connal (and almost does) but Conall is determined to win her. There's some difficulties that arise but Rhea and Conall handle things together (which helps Rhea realize just how good they are together) and then end the story starting a HEA together.

Liberty is a human woman that is a party planner. She got pulled into a hell dimension when two of her clients ended up being evil women that wanted to sacrifice her for a spell and ended up getting them all trapped in the other dimension. She went through horrible things until she was saved by Rory and his brothers.

Rory is a half-wolf shifter/half-demon that is brother to Bo (hero from book #3). Rory and his other brother, Ian, had been partners for year, usually just having each other for company. They spent most of their time living in a hell dimension but also lived in the human realm at times as well. Rory's wolf recognized Liberty as his mate as soon as he saw her. Unfortunately, since she'd just been saved from a demon that had kept her captive and raped her over and over, Rory realized right off he'd have to be patient with her.

When the story begins, Liberty and Rory have been together for the 8 months since she was rescued. He even sleeps with her every night....but in his wolf form. They're both attracted to each other but it's taken some time for Liberty to get used to and comfortable with her wanting Rory. By the time the wedding rolls around, Liberty has had enough of being (what she considers) weak and wants to move on with her life, hopefully with Rory. She just has to get the courage to tell him because Rory is willing to do whatever is needed to help her and be with her. It takes a bit but Rory and Liberty are able to deal with their obstacles and end the story starting a HEA together.

This was a pretty enjoyable story. I liked both couples but I do have to admit that neither couple's story really seemed full enough to have their own book so part of me thinks it's best that they shared a book. However, there were a couple of things that seemed to have been skimmed over and I can't help think that the stories still needed a bit more to fill things out completely. Overall, the story was enjoyable and I liked seeing how things worked out for the couples. I really liked the series as a whole and would recommend it. :)
