About this listen

A terrified voice on the phone. The line goes dead. The mystery begins.

During a superstorm, Holly Boswell receives a panicked call from her sister, Vivian: Come get me...There’s somebody coming. But when Holly arrives at a Long Island marina, there’s only her sister’s abandoned car. Vivian is gone.

It’s all eerily familiar. Holly and Vivian used to play hide-and-seek as children. It was a reprieve from the mental abuses of their parents, psychology professors who raised the siblings as if it were research. Decades later, Holly is reminded of their childhood games.

In her relentless search for the answers, Holly is reading between the lines in Vivian’s journals. She’s untangling clues in their mother’s diary and discovering secrets from her sister’s private world that are casting a dangerous shadow. Maybe Vivian has reasons for wanting to disappear from her well-to-do life. Or is it something more sinister? As Holly follows Vivian’s trail, she can’t shake the feeling that someone might be following her.

Critic reviews

“…one wild ride.”Kirkus Reviews

"[In] this spellbinding psychological thriller from Reinard (Sweet Water)…Reinard keeps the suspense high through to the surprise ending. Readers will have trouble putting this one down.”Publishers Weekly

“A missing sister, a bad marriage, a woman broken and trapped—Into the Sound will have readers under its spell from the first word until the final, shocking pages. The tension is explosive as past and present collide in this intense, fast-paced, and twisty thriller; and Reinard’s in-depth understanding of the ways in which childhood trauma follows into adulthood adds a deep and unforgettable layer to one woman’s hunt for her sister and the long-buried secrets of their difficult upbringing.”—Danielle Girard, USA Today and #1 Amazon bestselling author of Far Gone

A Little Predictable, But Overall a Good Ride

performance was a little overplayed, but the voice inflections between characters were noticeable and very good. I liked the character development that the author created. some of the characters were too hot or cold. Even bad characters should have a few redeemable qualities, and good characters should have a falter too. overall, it was worth my time to read. I enjoyed it, and would recommend it to people who like this sort of thing like I do.

Good story.

It started with a phone call on a dark and stormy night. What to do when your sister goes missing? Start investigating! The main character in this book was somewhat likable…she had been verbally beaten down for years by her husband but she certainly rose to the occasion when her sister needed her. Didn’t help that she was raised by a psycho mother! Throw in mob connections and you have the makings of a good book.

Better than your average "Missing Sister" book

No spoilers here. All I'm willing to say: the protagonist is interesting, the husbands are intolerable, the mother won't win any prizes for Mother of The Year, the Long Island accent is oddly Bostonian *and* this is yet another book likely to annoy Psychologists. Worth the listen.

Not 100% Certain

I liked the story but wasn't sure If it really grabbed me. But then I've been reading a lot of fast pass action And that may have colored my world

A novel worth reading

I don’t understand the negative review that was front and center. I thought it was a good read or listen as it were. The performance was great also. Maybe that negative review was added to this book by mistake.

Long Islandise?

Although I found the book predictable and the characters lackluster, what really turned me off to this book were the accents of the narrators. As a native Long Islander, I assure you the accents of Eve and Archie are more indicative of a Brooklynite and Det. Rigbys accent is more reminiscent of a Bostonian. The ending was a let down and felt like the author just gave up trying to tie everything together.

Good Story and Performance

I enjoyed this book. Some of the flashbacks with the parents were uncomfortable to hear due to the emotional abuse. I enjoyed the ending and found it satisfying.
