Story
Fifty years ago, the Earth died. The Earth is now a fertile but dangerous jungle world. Wildlife has prospered, although often in oddly altered forms. Survivors live in underground shelters waiting generations for the environment to become safe enough to emerge. Above ground, the radiation and poison has mutated the few humans that are left, but they do their best to survive for the 20 to 22 years they might live before the toxic planet or disease kills them.

Lauren Russell often wondered why her father had been so adamant about teaching her skills that most other fathers wouldn't even consider teaching their daughters. Ever since she was little, she had been taught how to live and survive outdoors, and how to use firearms to protect herself and those around her. Some of the training had been a bit extreme. Or had it been? Many of her questions were answered the day the world as she knew it ended.

Captivating story
I really enjoyed this thrilling post-apocalyptic story that really makes you think. Isabella (an ex-shelter person) and her new mutant family, journey to find a scientist their seer predicted could possibly find a solution to humanities radiation problems, and to warn other mutant villages of the governments plans. The mutated humans are seen as expendable by the non-mutated shelter people and the remaining military, they plan to use them as an expendable work force in order to clean up the toxic yellow zones. Not having listened to book 1, this second audiobook was easy to follow, as the author gave enough back story to enable it to be read as a stand-alone. The characters soon captured your imagination and your heart. Isabella is strong willed, loyal and intelligent, and you cannot help but admire her tenacity. She is old for her years and the love and compassion she shows is beautiful. Malcolm and his tribe live hard lives, they mature quickly and die young and yet they still find love and joy in their harsh world. I also loved Luke’s determination for find and help Isabella, even though it put his own genetics at risk. The narrator did a great job of drawing you into the story and making you feel what the characters felt. Her pace was just right and her mellow voice was present to listen to. This is a great story of survival, adversity, love, hope and also a sad refection of how cruel and bigoted humans can be.

An entertaining post apocalyptic adventure
Into the Yellow Zone is an entertaining post apocalyptic adventure with an interesting set up and well developed characters.
This book is part of a series, but I was able to catch up fairly quickly. Still, if you start at the beginning with the first book, you will probably enjoy it more. The ending leaves a lot for future books.
The narrator is not my favorite, but she does an ok job reading the book.
I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Enjoyable
Received a free audio version of this book. Second one in the series and it was an enjoyable listen. I like series and post end of the world as we know it books. Different narrator from the first book which I was thankful for initially but I still think it could have been much better with a different narrator. I don’t want to rate the book solely on narration

Wonderfully written work with engaging characters
My second read/listen from authors Lynda Engler & Henry Dixon. Into the Outside was a wonderfully written work with engaging characters set in the not too distant believable future. The narrator’s voice inflections add to the enjoyment of a well-written work. I’m happy to see the story is not complete because it’s so engrossing that it needs completion.

Into the Yellow Zone
Let me start by saying I did not listen to the first book in this series. I had no trouble getting into this story and very quickly figuring out the relationships between the characters.
I found the storyline interesting and engaging. The narration also held my interest. Definitely worth checking out the rest of the series.

Book 2 - mutants
Into the Yellow Zone is a story about post US times following multiple nuclear bombs going off. I had goose bumps going up my arms and neck when listening to the beginning of the book. Told from the perspective of a few people, the listener is taken on a journey to save the human mutants who’s genetics were damaged by the uranium. Great story. My only wish was that the narrator stayed away from reading in a monotone between character dialogue.
