About this listen

When Harriet Mahoney first saw it, Isabel Krug's bed was covered in sheared sheep and littered with celebrity biographies. The unpublished, fortyish, and recently jilted Harriet had fled wintry Manhattan in response to a mysterious ad in The New York Review of Books: "Book in progress? Why not share my Cape Cod retreat? Roomy and peaceful, your life will be your own."

In a room with a view atop a Truro dune, Harriet starts on a different path to fulfillment by ghostwriting The Isabel Krug Story, based on the sexy blonde's tabloid past; specifically, a nasty night in Greenwich, Connecticut, when Guy Van Vleet died and Isabel lived to tell about it on Court TV.

Unusually talented in the man department, Isabel revamps and inspires Harriet as they gear up to tell all, including the tangled history Isabel shares with her odd lodger, an artist called Costas. Life according to Isabel is a soap-opera extravaganza, an experience to be swallowed whole, and the attitude is catching.

Story was a lot of fun, almost seems plausible! Worth a listen to see how things unfold. Narration was good even if the characters voices didn’t accurately reflect a few times - fun to witness and added to the charm in my opinion! Going to check out more books by author and narrator. Thank you!!

Fun Listen - engaging story line

I’m not sure if it was the narrator or the writing or both but I found it was just ok. Not bad enough to stop listening to but not making me eager to tune back in again either

It was OK

I read all of Elinor Lipman books. I have all of her books on Audible. However, I cannot listen to this narrator. Her voice is very grating and monotone and annoying.

Cannot listen to this narrator

Isabel's Bed has no great revalations, no action, little mystery; it's just a lovely story read in a suitably brash and wonderful voice .Author Lipman's story and reader Conlin make one of those rare gems of a production; perfect for the small, sweet story that it is.

a Gem
