Publisher's summary

Used to pretending he’s someone he’s not, 21-year-old college student Micah has been hiding his true self. When a prank sends him into a bar on kink night, he finds something he never knew he needed: A world so strange, yet so alluring, where someone offers to take care of him...even though escaping all the pressure sounds too good to be true. But can he find something lasting with a daddy who likes to pamper him? Can he trust Carter to be his first in so many ways?

At 40, Carter is a widower. Though he’s past the stages of grief, he’s still completely lost without his late husband. There’s a hole in his life he doesn’t think he’ll ever fill. But Micah doesn’t only fit perfectly in Carter’s lap - he’s also curious about all things related to age play. Can he coax Micah out of his shell so he can become the femme, carefree, happy little he’s meant to be?

Sweetness!

Plot: Daddy/boy, May/Dec, hurt/comfort, age play, ABDL, femme

Feels: Micah’s journey to finding confidence in himself was so heart-warming and lovely how Carter also finds value to life with Micah

Drama: one chapter worth of a mess created by annoying characters

Heat: 3.5/5 slow-burn

Characters: likable MCs and friends, ignorant parents without boundaries, bullies

Pacing: just right

Length: normal, no filler

Ending: Sweet HEA coming full circle

Performance: Kenneth Obi is great at giving distinct voices to characters; Carter’s deep smooth Daddy and Micah’s sweet innocence with a touch of sassiness.

It's just us

Thank you for the Audio, I voluntarily give this book an honest review.  Great listen from Kenneth Obi on Micah and Carter. It's a daddy and littles or master and pup club that a bewildered Micah walks in on, only he has know idea what that is. Carter taking him under his wing so to speak, talks him through it. Is Micah ready to learn more of what a littles lifestyle is like or will his mixed feeling get in the way.

Sweet Story

I really liked Micah and Carters story. It’s a sweet story without too much angst. Kenneth Obi did a wonderful job with the narration as always.

Just beautiful

This is a sweet story by R. Pheonix and Chris McHart so if you are expecting Raissa's normal kind of dark this is not the book for you. However, it is a beautifully written story with such a wonderful explanation for this lifestyle. Kenneth Obi did such a wonderful job bringing these MC's to life. I loved every minute of this one and I am really looking forward to book 2.

really good.

this was a great book. I think it was very realistic with how the characters and situations were written. things went slow compared to most books in this genre and it was finally a ROMANCE book, not just an erotica that threw all the adult-fun-time kinks in as much as possible. it was well written and enjoyable. hell, even the kink written was made out to be more of what it really is and less of the demonization people think of.

my only negative comment is likely linked to my auditory sensitivity, and that is sometimes "Micah's" voice was really grating. otherwise it was narrated beautifully as well.

I tried something new for me

I stepped out of my comfort zone to try something different and new to me. I do read some kink and taboo but I guess you may say I read more vanilla kink.
Now you are going to laugh at me and feel free to do so. I saw age play and was like ‘oh yes! Age gap! Littles? Awe, sweet little people’ and I do like to see unique and different characters from the perfect. I could not have been more wrong. Color me Naïve!
Coloring and playing with toys didn’t push me out of my comfort zone. Heck, I do that. But then we get to sippy cups and binkies and on to the diapers… I still don’t know how I feel about that.
Now personal feelings aside I am going to do my job and review the story. It is a very well-written story with only a few well-developed interesting characters. There is that big age gap I love and I just adored Carter. (I am a sap for sad). The story is sweet and a slow build as Carter and Micah build their relationship, Micah comes to terms with himself and Carters moves past a hurt.
I listened to the narration by Kenneth Obi as I did some crafting and housework. I will admit I probably wouldn’t read this on my own but I loved having a skilled storyteller narrate for me.
So, if you already know age-play and littles are something you like or you are teetering on trying it but just don’t know…this is a good book to start with.

One of my favorites

This story has to be one of my favorites by these authors. It not only is a kinky romance focusing on age-play, it’s also one that involves gender-fluid dressing. The way these authors bring both of these subjects to the page is truly amazing. The characters are beautiful and have such emotion - you can’t help but fall in love with them, each with their pasts guiding their future together. This story also briefly touches on the outside perspective of the kink community and how those in it deal with negative perceptions.
Obi did another amazing job with his performance. Bring these characters and their story to life with his narration. There were times it brought me to tears.
Outstanding!!!

enjoyed it

Would I listen to it again: yes
Did the story keep me engaged: yes
Was I invested in the characters: yes
What did I like about the story? immersive story, interesting (well developed) characters and good pace.
○ Carter: I like that Carter was respectful of Micah's innocence and didn't rush him and that all he really wanted was to be there for Micah and help him grow into a more confident person.
○ Micah: I like that Micah was open to trying new things and embraced the new experience's Carter was giving him. I like that he was able to grow into himself and feel comfortable in his own skin.

R. Phoenix and Chris McHart have written a story that gently introduces the reader into an Age Play / Little's relationship, giving insight into what it is, why it's done and the emotional aspects of it.

Narrator comment: Kenneth Obi has done a wonderful job narrating It's Just Us. This type of book really suits his style of narration. Each character's personality comes through in their voice and the emotions and dynamics of the story shine to make for an enjoyable audio experience.
