Publisher's summary

What if Jesus didn't die to save us from God?

The doctrine of Penal Substitutionary Atonement is not the Gospel. It's a theory that originated in the 1500's under John Calvin. The damage done by this teaching is still being felt today. It's time to abandon this toxic theology in favor of a Christ-centered view of the cross that sets us free from sin and unveils a God of love who would rather die than live without us.

A concise treatment of PSA & its serious problems.

Keith Giles approaches Penal Substitutionary Atonement (PSA) theory from multiple angles; breaking down the false wall that prevents the western church from seeing the broken and damaging view of God that is at the heart of PSA's strongest arguments. Written in language the common lay person can grasp without getting lost in the rhetoric of the intelligentsia. He makes an argument for the view that has been held by the majority of the church over time without disregarding the value of a multiplicity of views. If you want to understand a part of why this generation is fleeing the church in the west or are curious what our Eastern Orthodox brothers and sisters have believed for 2 millennia, this book and the "Jesus Un-" series is highly recommended.

Illuminating

Since the 1500’s penile substitutionary atonement has been proclaimed not as a theory but the actual gospel. Most Christians have heard nothing else So when they read this book their first reaction is to draw back. I was a pastor for 30 years and that’s how I responded the first exposure I had. It took years of questioning and examining but I realized PSA is wrong. It’s NOT the gospel and it’s a gross misrepresentation of God. If you’re looking for answers to the questions in your heart get this book

The world needs to hear the gospel (good news).

Loved every minute of it! Keith has a gift to dismantle obscure and creepy ideas that as infiltrated Christianity. This book has helped me to see how wonderful and how loving is God our Father revealed in Jesus Christ. Thank you!

This feels like truth

I can't recommend this more highly. Our purpose is to love God and to love others the way God loves us. God doesn't love us because we deserve it. He loves us because he is love.
