Publisher's summary

Here we stand, and our eyes look forward sometimes miles ahead. Man has been doing that since he began to think. He is always looking forward, looking ahead. He wants to know where he goes, even after the dissolution of his body. Various theories have been propounded, system after system has been brought forward to suggest explanations. Some have been rejected, while others have been accepted, and thus, it will go on, so long as man is here, so long as man thinks. There is some truth in each of these systems.

There is a good deal of what is not truth in all of them. I shall try to place before you the sum and substance, the result, of the inquiries in this line that have been made in India. I shall try to harmonise the various thoughts on the subject, as they have come up from time to time among Indian philosophers. I shall try to harmonise the psychologists and the metaphysicians, and, if possible, I shall harmonise them with modern scientific thinkers also.

Set yourself free with this Yoga Philosophy book!

The content, narration, and author of this book are exquisite. This book is a true spiritual awakening and was a philosophical joy to listen to.

Profound, Timeless, Crucial Wisdom

A tour through the both the intellectual and intuitive aspects of dualism, and deep into the heart of monism. Though all of Vivekanada’s works are wonderful, this one could very well serve as the beginning and end of theological discourse. Pragmatic and thorough, this work is precisely what the Western philosopher / theologian needs.

The last chapter is by Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

So I like Vivekananda very much...though Raja Yoga is, for me, the most concise and packs a real punch. I was listening to this and found myself waking up with real alertness in the last chapter, for the ideas expressed about the "I AM" mantra were practical and insightful. That is, they weren't just explaining yoga to a western audience like much of the rest of the book.

I looked and looked, and finally discovered that this chapter is NOT by Vivekananda, but by Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, and from his book "I Am That."

It is weird that this chapter appears in Jnana Yoga?!

I don't mind, in fact it was helpful. But it is strange.

Must read for truth seekers

The average people would view this as nonsense. This is for those willing to do the hard work of examining all that they think they know.

Form folks interested in metaphysics, this is the book!

I might need to read / listen to this book a lot more times to understand the depth of the knowledge. All I can say is - I am a different person after listening to this book. I believe in Karma Yoga thus far, is that going to change ? Only time will tell. An eye-opening experience for those who have a penchant for philosophy and metaphysics. Go for it!

Racist, Bigot, Pro-Caste

Came for the Jnana Yoga, received the ramblings of a conservative racist bigot from India. Hard Pass, I only wish I could get my Audible credit back.
