About this listen

What Hinduism needed, amidst the general disintegration of the modern era, was a rock where she could lie at anchor, an authoritative utterance in which she might recognize her self. And this was given to her in these words and writings of the Swami Vivekananda.

What Hinduism had needed was the organizing and consolidating of its own idea. What the world had needed was a faith that had no fear of truth. Both these are found here. Nor could any greater proof have been given of the eternal vigour of the Sanâtana Dharma, of the fact that India is as great in the present as ever in the past, than this rise of the individual who, at the critical moment, gathers up and voices the communal consciousness.

Intellectually prophetic philosophy

Great lectures on the Hindi Cultural history, teaching, and comparative science on religious freedom and thought.

Non Judgmental approach to Spirituality, Theory, and Science.

18 hours of blissfulness

Being from the East, and in my late thirties now, I have been drawn to the eastern philosophy like never before. In a lot of ways, this book has significantly changed my way of thinking, from life, struggles, work, family, friends, and mortality. I am now a better person for it. This book is 18 hours long, longer than any other title I ever listened to in Audible, but I was so drawn to the narration that I raced to finish it, and plan to listen it again. I recommend this book to anyone who has an open mind and spiritual inclination. Who wants to find the meaning of life, and the purpose of living it. By all means, this book is mostly secular, and appeals to anyone with a spiritual curiosity. Thanks to Clay Lomakayu for excellent narration.

Mispronounced Sanskrit

Grateful for the opportunity to listen to the Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda, but it was painful to listen to the mispronunciation of Sanskrit.

I feel Graced!

Although I may not have understood the entire teachings, I feel blessed with the knowledge I am taking with me. I feel as though I was Graced and will continue with the teachings I have learned. If you are in a Spiritual quest, I highly recommend this book and I bless that you will also be Graced.

Everything could ever want to know

So the narrator pronounced many of the Indian terms incorrectly. I personally have heard these terms many times, so it wasn't too uncomfortable for me. That out the way, I give the narrator kudos for bringing this book into the audio world for busy people like myself. I will listen to this book, probably for the rest of my life. So much knowledge. So much to contemplate. Definitely one of the best credits I've spent.

I cant stop listening!

As a Buddhist I am in love with Swami Vivekananda’s teachings. His teachings are pure and easy to follow. Dont let the few reviews discourage you, not many look for teachings as deep as this great master’s.

A Yogic treasure

The reading performance does not help (although it gets slighly better in the second volume) but don't let it stop you. If the narration becomes too difficult to follow, you can still benefit from this lofty and universal piece of philosophy with its hardcopy. Or record your own reading of it.

Beautiful, nourishing, the most truth I've found

If you want to take life, spirituality, self development or knowledge seriously, this is an incredible buy. I bathe myself in this audiobook. I play close to half speed. this is dense (that's why I play at half speed) and beautifully expressed, both in terms of reason and in connecting with common experiences. it is an incredible entrance into the yogic ways of spirituality and truth seeking as well as a concise deep dive into them. the main thing is to avoid being overwhelmed. This is a path, a long and, actually, incredible (you will find yourself thinking it cannot be true, you cannot regard it as credible). For me it is best travelled by putting out of mind worry I won't reach the final destination. the yogic idea is that we will all eventually get there...but also that we all can bring ourselves and others closer, having more beauty, truth, vitality, self discipline and self direction, compassion, intelligence, power...more and more as we progress. I use this regularly and watch these things develop in myself. vivikenanda says that this is how we must do it because we cannot just believe something because someone else, even an authority or a large number of people, say it. Mostly not because what they say could be false-rather, because the point is not to merely believe or follow rules. The point is to seek, see and know, each of us, for ourselves. Here religion is not about believing. Here we only trust long enough to try, experiment, and see for ourselves.
