Fascinating Historical Fiction

A fascinating tale of a little known piece of American military history. In 1941, prior to formal U.S. involvement in World War II, military pilots from the Army, Navy and Marine Corps formed the American Volunteer Group, who came to be known as the “Flying Tigers.” After training in Burma, they valiantly defended our Chinese allies from Japanese bombers and protected the Burma Road, a vital logistical route. Richard Powell artfully blends Flying Tiger training and combat operations with personal stories of pilots, support personnel, host country natives, and a group of American missionaries. There is humor, romance, and human drama in addition to “seat- of your pants,” combat flight maneuvers. Powell’s writing is significantly enhanced by Col Brigg’s spot-on narration. He is a great story teller and puts you right in the pilot’s seat.
