About this listen

Book ONE in the award-winning KRONOS RISING series.

. . . worthy of sitting on the shelf next to Peter Benchley's JAWS." -Publisher's Weekly/BookLife

A coastal community faces the wrath of a prehistoric marine predator in Max Hawthorne’s heart-pounding new novel, Kronos Rising.

If you're fans of dinosaur books for adults like Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park and Lost World, must read adventure books like Greig Beck's To the Center of the Earth series, or amazing action stories a la Steve Alten's Meg franchise, you're going to LOVE the Kronos Rising series!

Steve refused to surrender. Even though he knew the creature was right behind him, he wouldn't quit. He would make it.

Just as that beacon of hope began to shine down upon him, the bright sun overhead vanished from view. Confused, he gazed wide-eyed as the daylight grew dim. Then he realized the ultimate horror: the creature had overtaken him, its jaws opened wide.

He was in its mouth.

A coastal community faces the wrath of a prehistoric marine predator in Max Hawthorne’s heart-pounding new novel, Kronos Rising.

Devastated by his wife’s tragic drowning, Olympic hopeful Jake Braddock turns his back on fame and fortune and retreats to his childhood home of Paradise Cove, Florida. He accepts the job of town sheriff, hoping to find the solace he so desperately craves.

He finds anything but.

A series of horrifying deaths and disappearances send a flood of panic through the idyllic town. It is only after the ravaged carcass of a full-grown whale surfaces, however, that the real terror begins.

Soon Jake finds himself drawn into an ancient mystery - a mystery that ends with him adrift at sea, battling for survival against the deadliest predator the world has ever seen. It is a creature whose ancestors ruled the prehistoric seas. Now freed after eons of imprisonment, it has risen to reclaim the oceans of the world as its own.

And it's hungry.

Good story, rather like Jaws but with a prehistoric marine reptile rather then a shark. Main character was a police chief of a small ocean side community but this story was a lot more complex with rogue whalers and shark finning pirates and of course most of the story was about the Kronosaurus that was terrifying the ocean and land alike.

too long for the material so lots of fluff, with romanic portion belonging more to 80s B movie. The soulless AI narration just made the book seem longer than it really was. AI not recognizing a Jamaican accent but reading the phonetics of it from the dialogues is one of the most jarring things I've ever heard in an audiobook.

AI Didn't Help a Bloated Story

I am truly happy that finally this great book is on audible and that I can take it with me and listen to it during the times I can't read the book ..A review on here stated that the AI taints the story .I don't know why they would say such a thing but I have to disagree. I found the narration to be smooth and enjoyable, maybe they received a bad version but mine worked great and I would definitely encourage others to purchase and listen for themselves because this story hits you with suspense and leaves you wanting more with every chapter.Even the way the monster feels like one of the characters with it's own thoughts and feelings is truly masterful.

The story pulls you in from the very start ,

The Virtual Voice may seem like a good idea from a publisher point of view, but actually listening to it is just a bad experience. If this becomes the "new norm", audiobook sales are going to suffer in the long run.

Virtual Voice makes it difficult to enjoy.

I love the story and the premise! I'm so glad that there's more to the story!
the ai isn't great, but I will take it of that is all I have.
I will say, I feel like most male authors either don't know how to write in females or they only have one type in their life... lol

awesome story

I've been waiting since this book first came out for the audio version and while this AI version isn't ideal it's still very good . I hope the rest of the series follows quickly !

Am I the only person that sees a majority of the deaths lead right back to the woman who threw the 25mm weapon into the ocean? And then whines because Willie and others get killed, again, most assuredly because of her actions. To then turn around and kill the beast, which is what would have happened anyway? I get it, story telling, but kinda sunk it with stupid choices…

*Spoiler Alert!*

Great story ruined by the terrible narration of virtual voice. If there is a book two, please do not release it with virtual voice. I would prefer to just read it.

Virtual voice is painful to listen to.

the voice was somewhat like a monotone and not much depth or fullness to it. otherwise loved all the science. it made a good story and tied together the main "monster" line

lots of details especially the science tie ins

I did not like the artificial narrator. It lacked soul amd emotion when describing key moments
