About this listen

Ellie Nelson finds key evidence for a case she was ordered to close. Her persistence results in her being fired and the evidence taken from her, but not before she’d gotten a glimpse. What Ellie knows makes her a target of a Denver-Kansas City crime family and a person of interest for the FBI task force that is investigating them. Ellie has to find a way to keep her feelings for one of the FBI agents in check, stay one step ahead of the mob, and figure out what to do with the rest of her life.

Easy listening and entertaining

This story was very entertaining and kept me coming back to see what would happen next. This was easy listening and not too intense to enjoy on the ride to and from the office.

I really enjoyed this book.

Every once in a while an author comes along that resonates. P. L. Gertner is one such author. It is rare in today’s world of nearly everyone writing and publishing that one finds a gem among the rocks. Here are a few of the things I like about her writing.
First. Her plots develop in logical order. The do not feel contrived.
Second. Her characters behave as you would expect them to. So many authors cause their supposedly 140 IQ heroes or heroines to behave like high school freshmen so there can be a scene with great physical jeopardy. When it happens in P. L. (Peggy) Gertner’s book it does seem like a logical development.
Third. Although the characters are adult and have sex, it is not graphic. After all, how many times can one describe the same scene without getting very tiresome.
Her mysteries are cozy mysteries and she remains true to the genre. They are cozy and comfortable and you can listen to one at bedtime without nightmares. So if you are in the mood for a cozy, listen to this audiobook.
The narrator for “Key to Murder” was Sitra Bourne and she does quite an acceptable job. She is good enough that I looked up her other readings on Audible. She has several books she has done and I just may check those out.
I will be listening to the entire Ellie Nelson Series. They make me feel really good.

An action-packed, fast paced thriller...........

Key to Murder is amazingly action-packed and fast paced for a fairly short novel. The story hits the ground running from the opening scene when the main character, Ellie Nelson, is fired from her job with the Denver district attorney's office for refusing to bury evidence of mob activity, retreats to her family cabin outside Kansas City and immediately finds a dead body in the backyard. Luckily, Ellie is an extremely resilient and smart woman, so, although she accepts protection from the FBI in the form of the very attractive Special Agent Cord, she resumes her investigation into the case for which she lost her job. This leads to plenty of brushes with death for Ellie and Cord as well as plenty of intriguing scenes in which Ellie is piecing together clues. With lots of interactions with interesting secondary characters like Ellie's best friend and her parents as well as a possible romantic interest with a certain FBI special agent, Key to Murder is a highly enjoyable start to what promises to be a good mystery series.

Sitra Bourne's narration is terrific. She does not differentiate overly between characters, but I never had any difficulty following the story line. Her delivery is flawless, and her pleasant voice made an exciting story even more entertaining as an audiobook production.

Ellie Re-invented

Key to Murder
: P. L. Gertner

Ellie Nelson was an assistant district attorney in Denver. She was fired for continuing to investigate cases she was told to close. The story spins from there, with a bit of good foreshadowing that hooks the listener. There is plenty of action with the characters interacting well with each other. The author hints at romance in her future.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Sitra Bourne has a pleasing voice.

Twists and turns!

This mystery is well-written and has great sexual tension to keep you hoping for love in the end.

Sitra Bourne did a great job narrating. She knew her characters well.

Good Read

Key to Murder was a great read by P.L. Gertner. Ellie was ordered to close a case that she just found key evidence to. She stays persistent which leads to her being fired. Now Ellie is a target of a crime family as well as a person of interest for the FBI Task Force. Ellie must stay off of their radar while trying to figure out what to do with her life. A wrench gets thrown her way when she develops feelings for one of the FBI agents. I really enjoyed reading Ellie's story and I can't wait to read more by P.L. Gertner.

Fabulous thriller!

Ellie is an assistant DA has been told by her boss to drop a murder investigation even though there are some inconsistencies with the confession. Being who she is she peruses the lead and finds herself unemployed as a result. Ellie heads to her parents summer home to regroup. Then she finds a body, an unfortunate snowplow accident or murder? Then the FBI shows up and things get tricky especially since the very special agent is hot! Enter organized crime and we have a great story. The narration was great and I am going to be downloading the next book in the series soon! Excellent beginning to what I hope is a great series!
