About this listen

Ellison Russell Jones's best friend Libba has a questionable track record when it comes to men. But finally—finally—she's selected a good one.

Charlie Ardmore hales from a fine family, plays a mean game of golf, and is a cardiologist.

Even Mother approves.

But when Charlie's patients start dying, the whispers begin. Is Charlie a killer?

Could Harrington Walford, Ellison's beloved father and one of Charlie's patients, be the next to die?

Worth the weight for the audio version!

I love a Julie Mulhern book read by Callie Beaulieu! Laughter, tears, dogs, and a cast of characters that feel like family.

Don’t know how they do it

I honestly have no idea how the author and narrator continue to deliver such impeccable masterpieces time after time. From the first chapter to the last, I always find myself riveted and impressed and entertained – and even surprised at the outcome now and then. I so enjoy the very human elements of the characters and I am amazed by the accurate description and ambience of the times. I feel transported right back to 1975. It’s incredible. Highly highly highly recommend. Can’t wait for the next one in this series. Keep going, please!

Love these books, but the mother…

I have read/listened to all these books. I love them. They’re just simple cozy mystery novels. I love the fact that there’s all these 70s references. The stories are good too. They always wrap up and there’s always some little funny thing going on. The only thing I cannot stand in in this book. is her mother. Enough already! She is a full grown woman and she lets her mother manipulate the heck out of her. The mother is also just totally annoying .That being said, the rest of the book was great.

No actual dead bodies this time!

I absolutely adore the Country Club murders. I don’t think it’s just because I’m from Kansas City, but that part of it is always a trip down memory lane to the 70s. Julie Mulhern‘s writing is so entertaining words like wherewithal, play raised an elegant brow, or brain Felt like a lava lamp! These books are just always so entertaining! Thank you so much for the laughs. Liesl

Love comes to Libba

I loved the family and friends dynamics. Ellison, Anarchy, and Grace grow stronger as they welcome Beau into their lives. Libba does some serious soul searching and grows. Karma moves to KC and adds a new dimension to the relationships.

One of my faves

I read the first book in this series because it was in my Plus catalog and sounded interesting. I was hooked by the interesting balance of seeing women's lives in the 1970s from a current author's perspective. I was hooked. I've listened to the entire 17 book (so far) series, and love some books more than others, but enjoyed them all. Killing Me Softly was one of the best. Really well structured with a compelling murder plot and great characters, i couldn't put this one down. But that said, the whole series is really good. Definitely recommend.

Intriguing Mystery

I absolutely love Julie Mulhern’s Country Club Mysteries series and I believe this is my favorite book yet. This has a great plot and the book is filled with Ms. Mulhern’s humor and great characters.
I always recommend that a new reader/listener start from book#1 so that they can experience the plot and character development, plus you won’t miss the humor that way.
My husband always insists that he isn’t interested in reading this type of literature but I find him sitting with me more and more often when I’m listening and he laughs at least as hard as I do.
The narrator, Callie Beaulieu, does an outstanding job telling these stories.
I highly recommend this series and this book especially.
