About this listen

When Flint Fireforge, dwarf and metalsmith, receives a wondrous summons from the Speaker of the Sun, he journeys to the fabled elven city of Qualinost. There he meets Tanis, a thoughtful youth born of a tragic union between elf and man. Tanis and Flint, each a misfit in his own way, find themselves unlikely friends.

But a pompous elf lord is mysteriously slain, and another elf soon meets the same fate. Tanis stands accused, and if his innocence cannot be proven, the half-elf will be banished forever. Solving the mystery will be a perilous task. Time is on the murder's side, and he is not finished yet.

An excellent winding tale of murder, mystery, betrayal as we see Tanis grow up with visiting Flint in the elves home. Well written and characters feel solid and familiar. Lore of elves, touching moments and a good dash of humor. Narration is excellent. Ignore the critics, Flint, Tanis, old and young elves and even female parts are well done. Slow in places, a little rushed in the ending but it wraps up solidly. If you love Dragonlance and more of two old favorites this is a real treat!

Great tale well told!

Voice better suited for Shakespeare or some such crap. This is fantasy and should be treated as such.

Sorry, I've heard better narrator's.

This book is a great introduction to the Companions, or at least to two of the Companions: Flint Fireforge and Tanis Half-Elven. Tanis endures the open prejudice of the elves because of his human father and finds comfort in his friendship with Flint, who endures the tribulations of being a dwarf in the elven city of Qualinost. The friendship between the two Companions blossoms against the backdrop of a murder mystery that does not fully resolve until the final climatic twists. For long-time fans of the Dragonlance series, such as myself, this book offers glimpses of events to come during the War of the Lance and the Chaos War. The performance was excellent, and Mr. Stillwell deserves much credit for bringing these characters alive.
