About this listen

Is Raistlin truly dead?

The answer lies in the new Dragonlance novella by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, which gazes into the future of Caramon and his mage-son, and into the dark nether-past of Raistlin.

Untold tales of Krynn.

Tales of sea monsters, dark elves, ice bears, hideous hydra-headed serpents, and loathsome draconian troops.

Further adventures of the kender Tas; the innkeepr Otic and young Tika; the dwarf Flint and Tanis, leader of the companions; Caramon and Raistlin, twin brothers, one, a genial warrior, the other, a sickly magician and scholar.

Nine short stories by superlative writers, plus an exciting new novella by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

This narrator really killed the experience for me as others have mentioned. I honestly thought they were perhaps being harsh and I give every narrator a fair chance. But Dufris needs to learn subtlety, his character voices are so annoying and over the top it ruins the book. I appreciate that he's giving the narration some effort but he's got to let the book tell the story not his terrible impressions and hyperbolic 'baddies' with irreverent voices. Just overall, can't recommend based solely on the narrator.

Just get Boehmer to read ALL!!

Honestly I don’t know how to review this I love these books and these stories but the way Dufris is reading this book has made it impossible for me to even understand mentally what I’m hearing, he’s reading this as if it were theatrics, I can almost visualize him standing there holding the book open in one hand and a human skull held in the other. He’d be perfect for reading short poems by Poe or some other overly dramatic writer telling dark tales.

Twice I’ve found myself completely spacing out on the book just because of the guy reading, I can’t even say I recall any of the story and it makes me review kind of shaky for me, I don’t want to give the story a bad review or a good one because I can’t remember it, I don’t want to give the overall good or bad because of the same issue with the story but I also don’t want to go to high in rating there because the performance was horrid.

TL;DR I’d say buy and read this book yourself skip the audible. Ax Norman would have been preferable to William Dufris.

I’m not sure

If I would of known it was a collection of short stories I would not have bought it. My mistake I will read the description next time. I’m going to try to get audible to refund my credit for this book. It’s just not my style of book.

I’m generally not a fan of anthologies. Some of the stories were excruciatingly boring, but I liked most of them. Same with the narrator. He’s not even close to the worst, but far from the best. The worst criticism I can give Is that he only actually has two voices... “Overly annunciated old man” and “Eeyore”. Both of them detract more from the story than they add to it.

Not the best, not the worst

I remember reading some of these in my younger days (enjoyed Dragonlance for 34 years now) but this audiobook... wow. They list one narrator even though I hear different voices, but one guy who seems to do the most reading is terrible. I don't want to be insulting, but that slow...annoying... emotionless voice is painful. I bought this for a 2700 mile road trip, but I'd just drive into traffic. I don't want to continue listening to finish the stories.

I made it 8 chapters. But I can't take it anymore. Then I looked up the narrator and found out he was the voice actor for Bob the Builder. I couldn't stand his nasal delivery when I heard it while kids watched that show years ago and I really can't stand it reading fantasy. I was gonna chug through all the Dragonlance series on audible. this stopped me dead in my tracks.

Bob the Builder reads fantasy

This is a collection of short stories with different narrators. The narrator reads chapter one as if it is a VERY melancholy poem instead of a story. I had skip to chapter two and then it got much better. I’ll always wonder what that chapter was but it was waaaaaay to hard to listen to.

Just get past chapter 1

I remember reading this one when I was a teenager (waaaaay back in the 1990’s). I loved this anthology. The narration on this one is weird. It took the guy the whole first story to get going…then damn. He’s an actor doing amazing job.
