About this listen

"No spandex and no capes. Ever."

Imagine you woke up one day to find you had superpowers. What would you do? Samantha McAllister thought her biggest problem was paying the rent on time. When she discovered that she can move objects with a thought and soar through the skies, she quickly learned that her problems were just beginning.

No one can hide in the modern age of technology. The government doesn't see her as a threat. They see her as a weapon.

Kinetic Star is the tale of a young woman with incredible gifts who finds herself plunged into a world of wonder, betrayal, and conspiracy. With government agents hot on her trail, can Samantha learn to control her powers before it's too late?

What did you love best about Kinetic Star?

The main character, Samantha, discovers she possesses amazing powers. So, what does she do? Hits the bars, goes to Vegas, makes some cash, beats back some bad dudes, and nerds-out with her super-geek ex boyfriend. And that's just the beginning!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Kinetic Star?

There were quite a few...lifting her underwear off the ceiling fan, enacting some revenge on her tormentors, hearing the author sing a Disney tune in a girl's voice, and the surprises and twists (I won't reveal here).

Have you listened to any of Jason Andrews’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I believe this was his first - and it was great

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Wonder Woman couldn't carry Samantha's sports bra.

Any additional comments?

There were also quite a few spots when I literally laughed out loud - love the author's sense of humor and somewhat obscure references.

loved the story but felt it was really jumbled up for the first 2 hours. It finally found cohesion at about 2 hours in.

Great story but slow start

Why is it so hard to find a like-able female protagonist in the SciFi/Fantasy genre these days? It seems as if writer's go out of their way to make women as horrid as possible. In this book everyone is more like-able than Samantha. Ukraine mobsters, her co-workers, random secretaries. What the hell? Would it have hurt the author to give Samantha some redeemable qualities? In every other scene she is shitting on everyone around her. Having the government lock her away and dissect her would be a mercy for the human species.
Like-able female protagonists are possible. They laugh, the fall then get up, they kick ass, they get lost but figure it out.
Samantha is the kind of person you wish would get hit by a train.

And not to nitpick, but the narrator needs to have a bit more of a personality. Good voice, very clear, but I feel like he is describing watching paint dry.

Sigh... yet another horrid human being
