Publisher's summary

When love is the only play that matters…

Agents Bishop and Marshall know:

The clock is ticking.

They control the most dangerous pieces on the board.

Sacrifices will be required to win the game.

Levi and Marsh need to:

Get home to each other and their son.

Fall asleep in each other’s arms again.

Start living the happily-ever-after the rings on their fingers promise.

What began as a marriage of convenience is now the rock Marsh and Levi cling to as they enter the endgame.

But defeating two kings is no easy feat.

They’ll have to make all the right moves and lure their enemies to their side of the board where they have the advantage.

But winning may cost them everything—their careers, their lives, and the love that’s become the center of their world.

King Hunt is the final book of the Perfect Play trilogy and should be listened to after Dead Draw and Bad Bishop. This swoony, single dad, marriage of convenience romance matches two mature, competent men and delivers the happily-ever-after they both so deeply deserve.

Very good series to listen to.

These two men had an amazing story told. They had a lot go wrong. A lot go right. Fell in love with each other. Fight the bad guys. Put together a plan to make the arrest work and bring down the bad guys.

5 Star!!

I've only read a couple of books by Layla's and I have liked each one of them. She packs them with a punch. I like a good M/M romance when written right and she knows how to write them.. They are easy to read and hard to put down.
This book was action packed, addictive as hell and had me

It had been amazing to see how much growth Marsh and Levi made since book one and I think King Hunt was the perfect ending for them... The author had me second guessing myself til the very end. This is a fantastic book... it's action packed, gripping, thrilling and addictive as hell and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire way through!

This was an amazing read!

A Different Kind of Cowboy!

I adore Marsh and Levi! Especially Marsh, he is his own different kind of cowboy! This last installment has the guys really facing the danger and taking care of business. I do not want to give anything away there, but I will say Marsh has some serious skills! I do love this as its own series, but I enjoy even more how it has been woven in with her other worlds. Whiskey and Fog City cameos everywhere in this book and they bring everything full circle! This series is my first listen by narrator Christian Leatherman, and he really has become Marsh and Levi for me. He just has the right voice for these guys, and he brings out the personalities and grit!

Maybe not my favorite of the series, but enjoyable

It is not possible to read/listen to this book w/o reading/listening to the previous two. (I also had to relisten to the second book of this series before starting this one to refresh my memory). Honestly, reading the multiple series that came before would add to its enjoyment, even if understanding the central plot of the Perfect Play series isn't dependent on those earlier series. And in brief, if you enjoyed the first two Perfect Play novels, you should totally read/listen to this one.
Perhaps this last one wasn't my absolute favorite Reyne book, though I did enjoy it. I found it to be one of the most unrealistic contemporary mystery/action romance novels I've ever read that is not urban fantasy, clearly intentionally far-fetched, and/or some other alternate reality. Known criminals and civilians who are just friends with people in law enforcement/FBI are totally included in busts & various maneuvers in ways that just blow the mind, (and would blow any chance at a conviction holding up against these villains). I'd find myself shaking my head or just confused as to "How are these people just there helping to investigate & apprehend suspects?" But hey, FICTION, right?
So yes, this world Reyne created in the Irish & Whiskey series, continuing in Trouble Brewing, Fog City, What We May Be, and Perfect Play, is unrealistic. The conspiracy and criminal connections in this trilogy are sometimes convoluted, (probably less difficult to follow for people with a really good short-term memory, which I do not have). BUT I found the characters and their interactions interesting, often loveable, funny and/or sexy. I also enjoyed villains who were scary in a menacing psycho/sociopath way, and good guys/women who scared everyone with their "you mess with me and mine, I will very competently end you" manner. I was sucked in from start to finish and would read more in this world.
As far as the audio, I am continually glad that Christian Leatherman has been the narrator for the last handful of books Reyne's released on audio. Sure, it's very possible that some of his foreign accents were not 100% accurate, but this book has a huge cast with many different accents from all over the US & Europe. I give Leatherman kudos for managing as well as he did and still giving the emotion and pacing its due. I hope he continues to expand the library of audiobooks he narrates.

Surprised!

I was in awe with how this series ended and was completely surprised with the twists and turns in this single dad, marriage of convenience trilogy!

I really liked these characters and the overall plot, but there were a few loose ends that left me wanting more.

Christian Leatherman was the perfect narrator and I can’t wait to listen to more of his work!

OUTSTANDING!!!!

Christian Leatherman does an amazing job of bringing this story to life.
King Hunt has everything the reader could want in the conclusion of the Perfect Play series.
There is intrigue, suspense, action, heat and so much love!
Marsh and Levi are putting all the pieces on the board to bring down the human traffickers.
This will take them away from home and back again as the final pieces are put into play.
Along with the intrigue we get to see these two become firmly cemented together. This new family that they have formed is indestructible. Along with found family and friends they achieve every dream they had.
I was kept on my toes with all the plot twists and turns and loved it.
The conclusion left me with a smile on my face and I found myself gushing over the love these two have.

enjoyed the conclusion

📖 Story comment: good pace, engaging characters, entertaining story.
King Hunt picks up right where Bad Bishop leaves off - I enjoyed the strength in Marsh & Levi's relationship and the pace of the story meant there was never a quiet moment. I appreciate this book is about the 'story' and not bombarded with unnecessary "s*xy times", just to fill the pages.

• There's alot going on in this story, so it's not one that can be easily listened too while doing something else without loosing track of bits of the story. • This series ticks all my boxes. I'm finding as I'm getting older, I enjoy older characters and books that are more story and less s*x with some real life moment's and lives that aren't perfect. • I'm going to go back and listen to the 3 books again to get the "full journey".

🎧 Narrator comment: I enjoyed Christian Leatherman's performance. He suits the characters giving them each their own voice and personality, has good timing, inflections and intonations, his characters are consistent across the series and he brings all the life and emotion to the story for a completely immersive experience.

Great end to this series!

This final installment was one exciting read! The twists and turns continue for Levi and Marsh as they attempt to solve the multitude of crimes and seek justice while navigating their feelings. The danger for this pair ratchets up while in pursuit but the chemistry between the pair is completely off the charts as they work on getting their forever despite how it all started.

Where I am sorry that this series came to an end, I did feel that parts of the story were a bit drawn out or maybe I was just restless for this pair to get their HEA. I'll admit I just wanted them both to get their HEA so maybe I was just impatient while waiting for them to get there. I did love the return of characters from the previous series that Ms. Reyne has written and at the glimpse of possible stories in the future with the characters in this book.

The narration performed by Christian Leatherman was performed well and made for an enjoyable listening experience.

Overall, this was a great read that I enjoyed from start to finish with all the books in this series and I would recommend this series to others.

Stunning conclusion to this trilogy!

I have loved every minute of this series and do not want to say goodbye to another set of much loved Layla Reyne characters! Marsh, Levi, David, and the rest of this large family have easily become some of my favorite characters in this shared world! I have loved getting to see Marsh and Levi find happiness with each other after all they have been through personally and professionally. While it was hard to see Marsh and Levi separated from large chunks of this book, the necessity of their separation leads to a thrilling chase of the criminals Levi and Marsh have been after for years. Getting to see past characters was amazing and I wish there were more stories about what is happening to Madigan and Co. I loved the ending to this trilogy, even if I don't want to say goodbye! I hope we will get Sutton's story because it sounds soooooo good in the most heartbreaking way. I am so excited to see what is next from Layla! As usual, Christian Leatherman did a fantastic job narrating this story! I will be on the lookout for more books by him!
