I bought the “Kitchen Table Tarot” audiobook by this author a few years ago and I loved it, as well as her writing style. So when I spied this title in an occult shop I frequent, I immediately checked Audible for availability…lo and behold, it was available AND included with membership! I downloaded it on the spot.

I’ve been practicing solitary eclectic witchcraft for close to 20 years, but I still enjoy reading books like this for new ideas and inspiration. And sure enough, she delivered. There were a number of ideas she shared which really resonated with me, where I was like, “Ahhhh! I like that; I’m gonna try it!” And overall, it is a pretty good read/listen. It’d be great for a beginner witch as well.

That said, there were a few parts that rubbed me the wrong way. While she points out more than once that there are many, many traditions of witchcraft, acknowledges not every witch is Wiccan, and emphasizes the importance of practicing your own way and letting others practice their way, and in addition, states she herself is not Wiccan, she still lectures the reader/listener a bit on the Rule of Three, a Wiccan belief, and makes some pretty broad statements about how she’s “never” seen any dark(er) magic that hasn’t negatively affected the practitioner or otherwise come back to bite them in the @$$ and suggests a basic return to sender-type spell instead (she doesn’t call it that, though; she talks about the whole “I’m rubber and you’re glue” parable). She stresses this point as she encourages the reader/listener to take into consideration the Ro3 in their own practice, which, as an eclectic non-Wiccan, I found to be both hypocritical and condescending. Her claims haven’t been my experience, not only with myself but other practitioners. I reserve dark magic for severe, thankfully very rare circumstances that call for it, and I certainly do not wield it around willynilly for everyone who gives me the side eye, cuts me off in traffic, or is rude to me in Walmart. I do use a return to sender-esque spell but sometimes, it just won’t do.

Aside from that, I enjoyed this book a great deal and would recommend it to baby witches as well as crones like me who enjoy implementing new, improved, or different ideas into their magic.

Pretty Good Overall
