About this listen

Lady Philippa Shaw had it all - a husband who was madly in love with her, a sweet baby daughter, and a house in the most exclusive square in London - until a shocking discovery revealed that her happy life was a lie.

After her husband's death, his past crimes return to haunt her, bringing danger, devastation, and the one man she’s spent the past few years despising.

Roland, the Duke of Northwich, never recovered from losing Pippa to the cunning scoundrel she married instead of him. When he began investigating the murky business dealings of her dead husband, however, he never intended to cause harm. Their clash is instant, her enmity for him shattering. As the shadowy menace of her husband’s sins emerges, Northwich offers his protection in the only way he knows how.

Pippa has no intention of binding herself to the duke in a marriage of convenience. But after an incident makes the threat to herself and her daughter undeniable, she reluctantly accepts his proposal. She finds herself struggling to reconcile the cold, ruthless man she believed Northwich to be with the caring, considerate man she’s married.

As they work together to discover who is behind the attacks on her, the secrets of the past are unlocked. And the most shocking one of all lies in her new husband’s heart.

My favorite of this series!

This one was my absolute favorite of the series! Roland is such an amazing and complex character. I love that the author highlights his connection to his mother's Native American roots. It's nice to have a main character that's not the typical white, male. I also enjoy having both a male and female narrator telling the story. I wish more publishers would consider this as an option.

Great series

Read all the books that audible has and they are great. I like how characters from previous books make cameo appearances throughout the series.

Pippa is a pain!

Not the typical S.Scott heroine. Pippa is stupid, stubborn and ignorant. A very unlikable character. Narration was just ok…glad this was on sale when I bought it!

PATHETIC DUKE AND SHEW HERIONE!!

NARRATION WAS EXCELLANT!! STORY WAS AWFUL!!

WOW I never thought I would do this to a story in the Nortorious Ladies of London series.
BUT Pippa Shaw was a Bitch!!! She was a Shrew so mean and cruel to Roland Duke of Northwich.

Pippa finds out her deceased husband was a murderer, liar, manipulator rapist , thief and child trafficker!! A Criminal of the worse sort. But its Roland she doesn't trust.

Roland is a weak stupid man!! Not deserving of being a Duke. He shows no respect for himself or his Title!! Pippa shoots him down blast him with her cruel words and he apologizes to her!! WTF!! She is the one in the wrong Not you Roland. Roland is trying to protect Pippa and her 2 year old daughter and she treats him like shit on a stick!!

This is not just angst in a storyline this is downright stupidity on Roland's part. I wanted him to just Dump Pippa!! Find someone to love and show Pippa what she had lost!! Wow I just don't believe this couple could ever truly be in love. (less)

Love Scarlett Scott but not this book

Story line was weak and unbelievable. Too much dialogue describing how characters felt rather than any action. The major love scene takes place in chapter 20 and took 49 minutes of excruciating dialogue about how they felt years ago but not of the moment.
I could not believe this was a Scarlett Scott book. Not only was it the worst Scott book, it was the worst historical romance book I have ever read.
