This story has an good plot in which Ransom is pulled away from Claire and his growing family to save King Benedict’s Kingdom while the king is off fighting a war. It is full of mistrust and betrayal. Meanwhile, Claire fights to save her kingdom. Demands on Ransom nearly wear him out.

Love the performance. The narrator does an excellent job with speed, pitch, and tone variations to characters. The writer provides excellent depiction of scenery, actions, and feelings of characters. Can't wait for the final book!

I finished this book in 1 1/2 days could not put it down until it was done. Now I have to wait until January 2022 for the next book. ☹️

This series is quite intricate and full of the sort of politics one expects to find in royal courts. Basically: don't trust anyone, draw your sword first and ask questions later. Truly, the story line is first rate and full of intrigue, suspense, and treachery. This generally would be a five-star read for me, except I had a tough time with Claire in this novel.

After years of tragic disappointments, Ransom and Claire are married. They are the kind of couple everyone expected they would be... at first. But Claire's trust issues, while understandable given her past, were just more than I wanted to deal with. I felt like Ransom would finally at least have one person in his corner that he could trust unequivocally. He actually does, but it's not Claire. That was a hard fact to deal with for a romantic like me.

But I'm still hopeful that all will work out. After all, their story is not yet complete. I'm definitely still fully engaged in this amazing series

I like the way the next book pretty much take off where the last left off. Doesn't spend 2 or 3 chapters retelling the story. only problem with this one is they keep referring to the twins as boy instead of boys. Can wait o get the next in this series
