This was one of those rare novellas that came out AFTER a fairly long series (a completed series) and for me, that was a bit of a problem. It has been quite a while - and many books - since I finished the various Muirwood series, so I had a really hard time trying to remember and figure out where these characters fit in. After reading a couple of reviews, I THINK that this is a prequel to the Muirwood saga and these two characters end up being Lia's parents.

With that being said, I have to go back and remind myself exactly where Lia fit in to everything. I know, I know....I should remember these things but when I say I read a lot of books, I mean that I read a LOT of books.

One thing I remember about the end of one of the sagas in the Muirwood world had several predictions or prophecies about who was going to excel or die, and some clues as to what was going to happen to certain members of this family in the future. At the time I wanted to go back and fill in some of these predictions with the various people and events that ended up happening but I never did - I ran out of time (or I forgot....one of those....)

Anyway, this was just another story that I know was important for certain reasons and it gave the backstory for the parents of another important character, but I think it missed the mark with me because I read it too long after finishing the various series.

That does not mean it wasn't good. It was. I just did not get as much from the story as I should have...

Wish it was longer

Love reading all of the Merewood stories. Jef Wheeler writes great fantasies. Can’t wait for more.

I just listened to this one again

I realized these two in this little story are the parents of Lia , in the later story . A good little story, but not my favorite.

Nice to get this perspective

Nice addition to the series. The story jumped around a little so I’d certainly recommend familiarity with the series, but a nice quick adjunct. As always, Kate Rudd provides her usual stellar performance, inflections and all! Thanks!

Beautiful Beginnings

The background to some of my favorite stories. Why you gotta go and make me cry Jeff?

Too short-too much unfinished

Perfect performance, as always by Kate Rudd. Good take as far as it went but stopped about 3/4 of the way through, for me. Not worth spending one of my audible credits, even a as much as I like Jeff Wheeler. I know it’s just a “tale” of Muirwood, but it should have a conclusion.

Too Short, not worth the money

I typically love Jeff Wheeler stories, and I’ve read most everything he’s written.
If the story had the audible version free when you got the Kindle unlimited version, I may have considered it worthwhile However, having had to pay a significant price for the audible version, I only realized it was only just over an hour after I bought it... and audible offers no refunds if you use cash. There’s no reason to use a credit when the price was only 5.95. The story was not really flushed out; little character development and it didn’t really move me. This is the first book of his I’ve read that I can say I don’t recommend.
The narrator as always did an amazing job :-)
