About this listen

He's your perfect date. You're his next victim.

When the tortured body of a young woman is found in a dumpster, her eyes swollen shut and her clothes soaked with blood, detective Erika Foster is one of the first at the crime scene. The trouble is, this time it's not her case.

While she fights to secure her place on the investigation team, Erika can't help but get involved and quickly finds a link to the unsolved murder of a woman four months earlier. Dumped in a similar location, both women have identical wounds - a fatal incision to the femoral artery.

Stalking his victims online, the killer is preying on young pretty women using a fake identity. How will Erika catch a murderer who doesn't seem to exist?

Then another girl is abducted while waiting for a date. Erika and her team must get to her before she becomes another dead victim and come face to face with a terrifyingly sadistic individual.

Gripping, tense, and impossible to turn off, Last Breath will have you on the edge of your seat until the final dramatic moment.

Just as exciting as the first in the series

As usual this series compelled me to keep reading until I needed to charge my phone. The character Erica becomes more vulnerable in book 4. The final chapters are so intense I don't even want to say more and ruin it for any readers. I think one of the things I like about the authors writing style is that it's almost short of fluffy descriptions and sentences that drag on and on and on. It's curt and to the point with just the right amount of detail and in this way it's just as effective as descriptiveness can be. The style is much like I imagine a cops story to be. I can't wait to see what comes next for all the characters!

Can't get enough of Erika Foster

I fell in love with detective Erika Foster in her first book! I love her politic fighting just plain down to earth following the trail of clues to find the guilty party. Like the first three books in the series this one doesn't disappoint. You get to see some growth in Erika's personal life and continued friendship with former characters.

Great story

Great story, great character development, engaging and immersive reading experience with a MC that was such a *itch that i could not like her for love nor money. She was a male bull striking everyone within reach and using everyone & anything to her advantage no matter what the cost & no regard for others. This character was like a lot of male detectives -narcissistic, arrogant, and self-centered. Thank God 4 the author NOT writing children into this story 4 her 2 care for because it was obvious she could only care about herself. Were it not so well-written i would never have finished this. It was a great story and Joseph had a few redeeming qualities to keep me interested, otherwise i would've called it quits. Worth a read.

Love Erika Foster

Not as good as the first 3, especially when I was impatiently waiting...but good enough to want another. My favorite female sleuths: Erika Foster, Tracy Crossehite, Elise Sandburg, and Kim Stone. Need more stories!!!

you won't trust any dating sites after reading..

I like books of E. Foster but this story line was maybe the weakest so far, but still it was good. Plus after reading this book i won't trust any online dating sides...

Modern

I like how this story gives a back and forth view from the killer to Erika Foster. This story keeps you on your feet with detail along with vital information that needs to be found. I love this whole series and continue to the next one. I wrote that his was modern since situations like this do happen with people being taken. I could not stand the suspense (in a good way). The ending definitely started to get me to the edge of my seat.

Crime Thriller at its best

Detective Chief Inspector Erika Foster is still trying to get back on the Murder Investigation Team (MIT) after being removed due to her abrasive behaviour. When a badly battered body of a woman is found in a dumpster, Erika is the first on the scene and wants the case. She is sure it is connected to a body that was found a few months earlier and wants to investigate. Due to bad luck on the part of Superintendent Sparkes, she gets her team back including Peterson, Moss, and Crane and they are on the case. When a third, then fourth woman is grabbed while on a date, the case heats up. All the victims have long dark hair, are attractive, and are planning to meet with someone they met online. A slash of the femoral artery, following a beating, is the cause of death in each case. Erika and the team needs to find answers fast before they have a fourth dead body on their hands.

The story is written in a way that the reader knows who the killer is and what his motivation is as well. The gripping part of this story is whether or not he will be caught before her kills another woman. The story alternates between the police investigation and the killer's activities. The description of the his step-by-step method of tracking, luring, and torturing his victims ratchets up the tension. The police procedures were also well planned following steps such as cameras (public and private), checking social media, interviews, intuition and a bit of luck. I like that we begin to see a softening to Erika. She is still tenacious and short-tempered, but not quite as abrasive as she had been. A bit or romance might be softening her a bit. This is a fast paced story, that kept me listening most of the day. I like the balance of work and personal, although this investigation kept them working crazy hours as they raced against the clock. Although this crime thriller can be read alone, I recommend you read this series in order to get the full picture of this team and the character development of Erika Foster. I definitely recommend this book and series to those who like detective stories, police procedurals and crime fiction. Once again I listened to this book narrated by Jan Cramer. She has given voice to Erika and I can imagine anyone else narrating this series.
