About this listen

Ann Rule presents her 8th collection of crime stories drawn from her private files - and featuring the riveting case of a fraudulent doctor whose lifelong deceptions had deadly consequences.

Dr. Anthony Pignataro was a cosmetic surgeon and a famed medical researcher whose flashy red Lamborghini and flamboyant lifestyle in western New York State suggested a highly successful career. But appearances, as this shocking insider account of Pignataro's tailspin from physician to prisoner proves, can be deceiving - and, for the doctor's wife, very nearly deadly. No one was safe if they got in his way. With scalpel, drugs, and arsenic, he betrayed every oath a physician makes - until his own schemes backfired. Now, the motivations of the classic sociopath are plumbed with chilling accuracy by Ann Rule. Along with other shocking true cases, this worldwide headline-making case will have you turning pages in disbelief that a trusted medical professional could sink to the depths of greed, manipulation, and self-aggrandizement where even slow, deliberate murder is not seen for what it truly is: pure evil.

Great book. Narration got a little old/ annoying.

Great book. First story is fascinating. The narration got on my nerves a little bit. after the first story I wasn't able to finish the last few stories in the book because they just didn't compare to the first. I do recommend however.

Good but not great.

Ann Rule is amazing. I love her work. Always. But when comparing this to others, this has been my least favorite so far. Still good, just not great. Performance by Laura Merlington was fantastic.

Enjoyed the stories

Knowing these were true stories it was very disturbing listening to the stories and our justice system and society, but I enjoyed very much. The time flew by and kept me very interested in all the stories. I will definitely get more Ann Rule books.

time difference

not sure why but it is listed as being a 14hr 7m audio book but once I bought it and started it, the time went to 12 hr and 50m. it's supposed to be unabridged so not sure why there is less time than what is listed online.

Shocking and sad

I really enjoyed this audio, it has a lot of interesting facts about people I had never heard of. The author knows how to pull you in giving you a very entertaining read that leaves you with your mouth open and in shock at times. I don't know how people think they can get away with what they do and they always say everything went black, the gun went off when I fell. I love true crime, this is one of the best true crime authors around.

I thought the narrator did a good job with the character voices, you always know who is talking and what they are feeling. She really knows how to pull of the dry non caring characters. There are no background noise, no repeating of words, no volume change. She delivered a great listen

Uninteresting cases and characters

Too many UNNEEDED details. The lead characters of two of the three stories were people I would never want to know anything about. There are so many murder mysteries. Why in the world did she choose cases And characters that have no intrigue or depth.
