About this listen

Be predator or prey. A psychological thriller. Eccentric British scientist Rowena Aldus is in dire straits, about to be thrown out of Venezuela after spending years in the Amazon jungle studying a spider venom that promises to cure ED. Then she meets American angel investor Guy Westerphal and all her dreams suddenly come true, including falling in love for the first time. When Guy vanishes one day and Rowena is arrested on charges of illegally experimenting on an indigenous tribe, she flees over the border to Colombia, where she later discovers the truth behind Guy's disappearance. As she tracks down Guy to confront him, Rowena comes face to face with the twisted reasons behind her self-imposed exile from England. An exploration of the power of the past on the present, and what it takes to overcome it.

GREAT IN ALL ASPECTS

It was a good book all the way to the end. The ending made it a very good book. I usually have an idea of how the book will end, but not this time. It was a big surprise. Katherine Kellgren has always been my favorite narrator. Unfortunately she has passed. Cynthia Janzen is great and a new favorite. Great job all the way around.

goid

Well, this took some very dangerous and lethal turns. Never underestimate a woman scorned. The heroine was a unique blend of good and bad. I admired some things about her and disliked other things. This is a very suspenseful story right up to the end. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review . The narrator did a great job bringing it to life.

I don't know how to describe this book

I don't know how to describe this book but I did enjoy the whole experience. Storyline narration all really good.
Which genre it fits into I don't know.
Read it and judge for yourself I'm sure you'll not be disappointed.

An adventurous thriller with a unique woman

I am usually not a thriller reader, but this one captivated me.  The angst is low to medium.  There is occasional violence but not very graphic.  The story is written in the past tense first person perspective of the female main character.  The author Christina Hoag has a wonderful writing style and first-hand knowledge of both the South American location and Colombian guerillas from her previous career as a journalist.  The exotic locations, nail-biting adventure, and interesting revenge plot kept me spellbound.  I highly recommend this audiobook to all thriller fans.

I immediately connected with the quirky, intelligent, and mysterious protagonist, Rowena Aldus.  She a female English biochemist who loves living in the remote Amazon rainforest of Venezuela.  She is resourceful, determined, flawed, and fascinating.  Even with her highly questionable moral choices, I loved getting to know her during this high quality thriller.

The narrator Cynthia Janzen is top-notch with a cultured English accent for the main character and a diverse variety of American and South American accents for the other characters.  I loved the smooth, pleasant voice of the narrator, and she was excellent at bringing the story to life.  The only flaw in the narration was that the occasional edited snippet that sounded like it was made in a different studio than the original narration.  It was a little jarring.  I would have given the narration 5 stars if the edits had better production value.

I requested and received a free copy from the author, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Predator or prey?

I highly recommend this book.
Omg this is the best story I have read in a long time. This story takes place over several years which makes seem realistic to me. The study of venomous spiders in the jungle makes me shiver in fear. This lady has more guts than I could ever even think about.
The narrator did an awesome job with the accents. There were a few time I had to rewind and make sure what she said because it was spot on.
This is my first time with this narrator and author but it won’t be my last.
I received this free from the author or narrator for a free review.
