About this listen

Layover is the story of a young, attractive real estate broker stuck in a loveless marriage who falls for her brother-in-law after experiencing a layover in his home city. Nya is a stunning go-getter who refused to be a jumpoff to an NBA mega-star. She cashed in his lavish gifts and started her own real estate company. Soon, she met the man of her dreams - or so she thought. Her handsome husband Kenny turned out to be a selfish bully who cared more about appearances than people.

Nya sets off on a business trip that would breathe new life into her struggling company. After experiencing weather delay during her layover, she hooks up with her husband's brother. Nya soon learns that he has always been in love with her. They spend the next several weeks wrestling with their feelings and trying to figure out how to leave their respective marriages to be together. They also learn that they are justified in their actions, since their spouses have their own secrets.

Nya is no prude. She has a dirty mouth and is a tigress in the bedroom. Every man wants her and every woman wishes they knew her tricks

Layover offers a fascinating glimpse into the lives of young Black professionals that are not too far removed from ghetto life and hoodish tendencies. The story is captivating, suspenseful, and unpredictable. It is a must-have for street lit lovers and those who enjoy urban fiction.

I Really Disliked the Main Character

Would you try another book from Peaches The Writer and/or Matilda Greenwood?

No. I found the style of writing crude and disliked the constant use of profanity and ethnic slurs.

Would you ever listen to anything by Peaches The Writer again?

It is Unlikely

What does Matilda Greenwood bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The voices were pleasant to listen to. However this did not save the story.

Do you think Layover needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Absolutely not.

Any additional comments?

This is clearly directed at female readers/listeners. I can't imagine any male being interested. The main character flip flopped in her opinion and attitudes so often that I came to dislike her. I did not realize when I selected it that it was focused on African American characters using profanity, slang and the "N" word throughout.
