About this listen

From the New York Times best-selling author of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo comes an all-new audio production read by Julia Whelan, including a bonus conversation with Julia Whelan and Taylor Jenkins Reid, recorded exclusively for this edition.

When Lauren and Ryan’s marriage reaches the breaking point, they come up with an unconventional plan. They decide to take a year off in the hopes of finding a way to fall in love again. One year apart, and only one rule: they cannot contact each other. Aside from that, anything goes.

Lauren embarks on a journey of self-discovery, quickly finding that her friends and family have their own ideas about the meaning of marriage. These influences, as well as her own healing process and the challenges of living apart from Ryan, begin to change Lauren’s ideas about monogamy and marriage. She starts to question: When you can have romance without loyalty and commitment without marriage, when love and lust are no longer tied together, what do you value? What are you willing to fight for?

This is a love story about what happens when the love fades. It’s about staying in love, seizing love, forsaking love, and committing to love with everything you’ve got. And above all, After I Do is the story of a couple caught up in an old game—and searching for a new road to happily ever after.

Couldn’t have loved it more, the story kept me listening. Julia Whalen does it again

This is the first book I have read, which I think I would go back to and listen to again and again—I did not want it to end! Loving characters, and tear jerking moments. You can relate to any or many of the characters as you listen, and ponder your own life experiences along the way! I loved Grandma, and also many heartfelt family moments. This is my favorite TJR so far!

Amazing and heartfelt!

Wasn’t a big fan of this novel. Slow and not that interesting. At least the ending was happy but predictable.

I am typically pretty stingy and/or strategic and critical about my 5 stars. If you look at the average of my reads, this is a book that would traditionally fall into the 3-4 star range, meaning it wasn’t anything mind-blowing, but solid and that I would definitely be willing to read it again. However, I enjoyed every moment of this story and was captivated and completely engaged the entire time. Julia Whelan, for one, has become my favorite female narrator, for sure. I absolutely adore what she brings to the table each time. Back to the story, I appreciate the realistic aspect of this marriage and love the lessons to be learned when it comes to a marriage and how important communication is! I almost felt like I was reading a real life memoir of a struggling marriage and how they overcame it. This will definitely be one that will stick with me.

I also enjoyed the interview between Julia Whelan and Taylor Jenkins Reid at the end, just as much as the story itself.

This is currently my fav book by TJR!

This was a super easy listen. I enjoyed the characters and the story. Nothing monumental but very relatable in a way that made me not want to turn it off! Finished it so fast.

I really loved this book. It’s really detailed, speaks about marriage problems, its funny and has a different plot of what I normally read. This is the first book I read from Taylor and I just loved it. I think Julia Whelan did an excellent job with the narration. I enjoyed the whole story and really like the ending. I honestly wanted to cry a couples times toward the end. I recommend this book.

Easy to listen to and very nice story

This story makes you think about how often young couples don’t last together and how important it is always to try everything… always!!!
Never give up to soon and try…!

After I Do is what many couples feel and go through- but might not ever verbalize it. This book makes you feel normal and gives you hope!
