About this listen
From the author of the “compelling” (Star Tribune, Minneapolis) and critically acclaimed Everything You Want Me to Be, a riveting and suspenseful thriller about the mysterious disappearance of a boy and his stunning return 10 years later.
There is a place in Minnesota with hundreds of miles of glacial lakes and untouched forests called the Boundary Waters. Ten years ago a man and his son trekked into this wilderness and never returned.
Search teams found their campsite ravaged by what looked like a bear. They were presumed dead until a decade later...the son appeared. Discovered while ransacking an outfitter store, he was violent and uncommunicative and sent to a psychiatric facility. Maya Stark, the assistant language therapist, is charged with making a connection with their high-profile patient. No matter how she tries, however, he refuses to answer questions about his father or the last 10 years of his life.
But Maya, who was abandoned by her own mother, has secrets, too. And as she’s drawn closer to this enigmatic boy who is no longer a boy, she’ll risk everything to reunite him with his father, who has disappeared from the known world.

Story
Clare Fergusson, St. Alban's new priest, fits like a square peg in the conservative Episcopal parish at Miller's Kill, New York. She is not just a "lady"; she's a tough ex-Army chopper pilot, and nobody's fool. Then a newborn infant left at the church door brings her together with the town's police chief, Russ Van Alstyne, who's also ex-Army and a cynical good shepherd for the stray sheep of his hometown.

I honestly loved it
As someone who lives in Minnesota and that being the main reason I picked it up, I fell in love with the story and the adventure to find the truth about the past.

Mediocre Story
The story was just ok. The narrator was hard to listen to. I regret wasting a credit on it.

Being from Minnesota, it was very annoying the narrator could not pronounce “portage” correctly! Plus a few other words.

One suggestion: the book would have been much better if the narrator had a MN ACCENT. HER SOEECH PATTERN WAS NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF SOMEONE RAISED IN Duluth.

What will love do?
I enjoyed this book for what would be brutal honesty about how we as humans can react to issue's of childhood rejection, abandonment, trauma's through dysfunctional families. It deals with issue's of mental illness and how it affects people's life's. It had many twist's and unexpected turns in most every chapter. Glad I took a chance on reading it. But it may not be for everyone

Amazing story
This book is incredible. It’s heartbreaking at times. It causes all sorts of emotions. It isn’t “true to life” so if you hate books that cause you to say, “That wouldn’t work like that,” then you may not like this one. I loved it.

Meh
The reader talks too fast and the sentences run together. Several times I had to stop and go back to catch what she was saying. Story was just okay. wish I hadn't wasted a credit on it.
