About this listen

An addictive debut thriller starring a FBI consultant with a peculiar taste for crime and punishment....

A boy vanishes on his way home from school. His frantic mother receives a ransom call: pay or else. It’s only hours before the deadline, and the police have no leads. Enter Timothy Blake, an FBI consultant with a knack for solving impossible cases but whose expertise comes at a price. Every time he saves a life, he takes one, trying to satisfy an urge he fears he can only control for so long.

And this time Blake may have met his match. The kidnapper is more cunning and ruthless than any he’s faced before. And he’s been assigned a new partner within the Bureau: a woman linked to the past he’s so desperate to forget. Because he has a secret, one so dark he will do anything to keep it hidden.

For fans of Hannibal and Dexter, Hangman introduces a darkly mesmerizing character whose skill at finding criminals comes from a knowledge that can only be learned firsthand.

A Wild Ride

this story started slow for me but once I grasped the plot and characters I was hooked. I did figure out the ending before it ended but enjoyed the book very much.

Surprisingly very good 👍

I didn't expect to enjoy this book, since I've had such a hard time with so many lately. But this book was fast paced and had enough twists to keep me interested. It's a great listen!

Great Read!!!

Amazing representation of antagonist/ protagonist. Wished they would give the answers to the riddles. Found this author by accident. I’m aiming to read all of his books

Excellent story!

Well..who would have thought I would be cheering for a man like this? Totally engaging and riveting story. The twisty twists at the end were a lot of fun. I have already purchased the next book. Christopher Ragland was excellent in reading. It was easy to keep the individual voices separate and believable. Well worth listening to.

Off kilter kind of mystery...

This book is sure to disgust some and make others want to loose their cookies!!!! Seriously, this is a very different but entertaining book with a completely UNbelievable plot.
The premise of this book is that the FBI has made a deal with Timothy Blake. He is a totally bent character. Timothy has an uncanny ability to solve riddles and find kidnapped children by putting the pieces together like a puzzle. He's able to go to a crime scene and find clues the professional investigators missed. Hasn't finished high school, never went to college, hired as a consultant to the FBI. If he finds the missing child his payment is the body of a death row inmate (after execution). Go ahead , guess what he does with it ...

Ready?

Well, he's kind of like Hannibal Lecter, he eats it.

Anyway, this book is fun and aside from being a cannibal the wicked protagonist also makes his share of mistakes. Lots of false clues for a really twisted story, if you can get past Timothy's choice of meals! He finds the kidnapped child he was supposed to find but something's wrong and it's up to Timothy to figure out what it is.
Christopher Ragland does an excellent job narrating.
I recommend this book for the right listener...

Wonderful All Around

This book is refreshingly awesome. It's got Dexter vibes but it's really like nothing I've ever read before--really unique. The narration is spot on and the story draws you in. I can't wait to read the next one!

Eye Opener

Eye opener.

Knowing that desecration or mutilation of a corpse, murder and stealing body parts (theft) are against the law and criminal offences, cannibalism is only against the law in Idaho. Which then made me wonder what the heck happened in Idaho to take that extra step. Especially since I live in Idaho.

I liked the ending as well - You don't always get what you want.

Scarey enough to lock your door on a sunny day

Something’s just not right about this dude but he sure has a lot of comical views in life. I gather most people will think think this novel is too bazaar but hey, I live for the bazaar.

I seldom write reviews because I find most stories to be average. I can’t write about average stories. Hughes character Timothy Blake is one scarey dude! He seems very passive in nature but you don’t want to be around him if you’re bleeding. Sometimes I feel empathy for him and then again I’d run away from him if I ever saw him with a fork and knife in his hands. Heath gives you some history of Blake’s upbringing and a small amount as why he craves flesh and blood.
The narrator Ragland totally made this character. Without him I don’t think I would love Blake like I do. He delivers Hugh’s content with the perfect amount of articulations, maybe dictions, he just does it well for Timothy Blake.
Sometimes I think I would like to hang out with Blake. Then again I’d like to know I would be going home afterwards too.
Jack Heath, please write more about your character Blake. I see you have another called, Blake but it’s in German I believe.

Odd, sometimes sickening, and unputdownable!

I’m not a fan of cannibals, but Jack Heath managed to flesh out (no pun intended) his main character beautifully. I had very little ambiguity rooting for Timothy Blake, even though he is a hero I would never want to meet. The storyline was action packed and held my interest without pause. I’m getting ready to read book two now!
