About this listen

Reminiscent of the best sellers of Laura Lippman and Harlan Coben - with a Serial-esque podcast twist - an absorbing, addictive tale of psychological suspense from the author of the highly acclaimed and Edgar Award-nominated What Remains of Me and the USA Today best-selling and Shamus Award-winning Brenna Spector series.

For 13 days in 1976, teenage murderers April Cooper and Gabriel LeRoy terrorized Southern California's Inland Empire, killing a dozen victims before perishing themselves in a fire...or did they? More than 40 years later, 20-something podcast producer Quentin Garrison blames his troubled upbringing on the murders. And after a shocking message from a source, he has reason to believe April Cooper may still be alive.

Meanwhile, New York City film columnist Robin Diamond is coping with rising doubts about her husband and terrifying threats from internet trolls. But that's nothing compared to the outrageous phone call she gets from Quentin...and a brutal home invasion that makes her question everything she ever believed in. Is Robin's beloved mother a mass murderer? Is there anyone she can trust?

Told through the eyes of those destroyed by the Inland Empire Killings - including Robin, Quentin, and a 15-year-old April Cooper - Never Look Back asks the question:

How well do we really know our parents, our partners - and ourselves?

The story was ok, but the female narrator was horrible! She sounded like she was reading with her nose plugged. I could barely listen to this. I will make sure I never purchase another book that she narrates.

Good story, horrible narrator

Maybe there were too many moving parts for me to absorb while moving through my daily life. For me this seems to be a book to devote complete attention to while reading. To be fair I think I may need to “read” it again.

May need to re-read

Lots of twist and turn until the end, but I did not stop listening. The plot was unique, I think I saw a TV show similar to this one. I did not care for the narrators much, the female narrator sounded better for Summer character. I enjoyed the story thought abd will look for more books by the author.

While this book held my attention, it was merely good for me. There weren’t any off the charts twists or anything.

Good not great

This one kept me guessing. I was constantly back and forth among my own theories. And while I ultimately guessed right, I wasn’t sure until the very end. Loved it!

Wow!

Story was suspenseful to the end with many turns twists. I suspected who the killer was but did not expect the revelations from April. Well done!

Narrators were perfect for the story

The storyline was good so I wanted to like this book, but the beginning was SLOW, the middle picked up and was good, then the ending was so convoluted I lost track of who was who.

Hard to finish
