About this listen

Sarah and Warren's college love story ended in a single moment. Decades later, when a chance meeting brings them together, a passion ignites—threatening the foundations of the lives they've built apart. Since they parted in college, each has married, raised a family, and made a career. When they meet again, Sarah is divorced and living outside New York, while Warren is still married and living in Boston.

Seeing Warren sparks an awakening in Sarah, who feels emotionally alive for the first time in decades. Still, she hesitates to reclaim a chance at love after her painful divorce and years of framing her life around her children and her work. Warren has no such reservations: he wants to leave his marriage but can't predict how his wife and daughter will react. As their affair intensifies, Sarah and Warren must confront the moral responsibilities of their love for their families and each other.

Leaving charts a passage through loyalty and desire as it builds to a shattering conclusion. In her boldest and most powerful work to date, Roxana Robinson demonstrates her "trademark gifts as an intelligent, sensitive analyst of family life" (Wendy Smith, Chicago Tribune) in an engrossing exploration of the vows we make to one another, the tensile relationships between parents and their children, and what we owe to others and ourselves.

The voice reading this book was unpleasant to listen to. I think I would have enjoyed the book much better reading it and not listening to it. Unemotional, one tone voice, grating to my ear.

A book with deep meaningful descriptions of life’s moments.

Terrible voiceover. Almost ruined the book. I even returned it once, because I couldn’t stand the voiceover performance. But then I realize my library doesn’t have it as an audiobook and there was no other option.

Dreadful robotic voiceover

I almost gave up on the book because of the wooden narration - it was really hard for me to listen to. But the writing is really good and insightful, and the characters are engaging.

Really good book but awful narration

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

The whining tone, no differentiation between characters such as Sarah and her daughter, Meg, and Katrina, narrator, etc.

Wonderfully written book but audible version has terrible narration

Hard to finish. Little substance. Terrible audible narration. Characters difficult to connect with and not well executed. Finished solely for book club.

Boring emptiness

But…the narration was horrible. Her voice flat and disinterested. Was hard to get through but stayed with it based on the story and writing.

Story is very good

Too much hopelessness too much depression too much wasted life
Too much sadness more selfishness than needed

Sad depressing and a lesson in lonely

The grating voice of the narrator made me sorry I purchased this audio book. Had I not needed it for book club, I would have deleted it as soon as I started it.

Overall I was disappointed by the story and the less than engaging writing.

Disappointed

I really disliked the reader’s voice. I hated the ending. It was unexpected and ended too quickly and easily to make it satisfying as the reader.

Good character development

Did not care for the reader
