Immaculée Ilibagiza
About this listen
Miraculously, Immaculee survived the slaughter. For 91 days, she and seven other women huddled silently together in the cramped bathroom of a local pastor while hundreds of machete-wielding killers hunted for them. It was during those endless hours of unspeakable terror that Immaculee forged a profound and lasting relationship with God.
The triumphant story of this remarkable woman's journey through the darkness of genocide will inspire anyone whose life has been touched by fear, suffering, and loss.

Story
We think we know the story of Africa’s Great Lakes region. Following the Rwandan genocide, an idealistic group of young rebels overthrew the brutal regime in Kigali, ushering in an era of peace and stability that made Rwanda the donor darling of the West, winning comparisons with Switzerland and Singapore. But the truth was considerably more sinister.

Story
Around noon on January 15, 1919, a group of firefighters were playing cards in Boston's North End when they heard a tremendous crash. It was like, "a roaring surf," one of them said later. Like, "a runaway two-horse team smashing through a fence," said another. A third firefighter jumped up from his chair to look out a window - "Oh my God!" he shouted to the other men, "Run!" A 50-foot-tall steel tank filled with 2.3 million gallons of molasses had just collapsed on Boston's waterfront, disgorging its contents as a 15-foot-high wave of molasses that at its outset traveled at 35 miles an hour.

The Choice weaves Eger's personal story with case studies from her work as a psychologist. Her patients and their stories illustrate different phases of healing and show how people can choose to escape the prisons they construct in their minds and find freedom, regardless of circumstance.

At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

All I can say is BUT GOD!
What a POWERFUL display of God’s love, forgiveness and redemption. The Author was such an excellent storyteller. She drew me in from start to finish as though I walked through this journey with her. Though I could NEVER imagine the atrocity she experienced my heart pained when hers pained in the story and rejoiced when hers rejoiced. May God continue to bless her and her work.

A remarkable and inspiring read, Highly recommend
I was gripped by this fascinating true story from the start. Harrowingly real and written in a way that you can feel Immaculee's feeling as if you was right beside her. and so many lessons to learn from this brave and courageous woman.
Highly recommended to all. And to Christians this book will inspire you to take a fresh look at your relationship with God and will both invigorate and inspire you to become a prayer warrior.

Heartbreaking, spiritual and Hope-filled
this was one of the most powerful books I have ever read! A testament to our Lord and savior and the power of His love! What an amazing woman and what a blessing for her to have been able to live in the Spirit through the turmoil and come out as a kind and forgiving woman!

True God, True Faith
A riviting account of how one young girl miraculously survived the evil, the very hell on earth of the 1994 Rwandan Holocaust. Her God-given, power-filled faith in the one living, true, and faithful GOD was tested, fortified, and purified by fire that would cause most to deny God and be disillusioned by hatred. Instead, HIS redeeming love for her yielded a life and heart that reflects HIS attributes of LOVE and FORGIVENESS, and HIS POWER and STRENGTH. She imbued new meaning into the faithful prayers of the righteous.

Required Reading for Citizens of the World!
Everyone who breathes air on earth should read this book. 2020 is revealing the same kind of hate that can fester anywhere. If you have perception this happened because they are savages, you are sadly mistaken. This was propagated and orchestrated by France and Belgium and power hungry political figures in their county. This can happen anywhere and Immaculee’s story will awaken your senses in ways you can’t imagine and her remarkable faith and wisdoms will effortlessly teach us how to live amongst this type of hatred, but also how to prevent it from happening elsewhere. It is ignorant to make judgements of Rwanda, this can happen anywhere and will happen again somewhere if we don’t learn from them. Be prepared for your life to change if you dare to open the pages of this book. It’s a must read!

Tragic and Heartfelt
I was recommended this book by a person who serves regularly in Rwanda and I was far from disappointed. I cried, even sobbed occasionally, listening to this woman's story but I'm so glad I was given the opportunity to hear it.

Everyone needs to hear this...
This story needs to be heard... not only for the history but for the hope that faith can provide. Read it or listen... but spend time with this story. Normally I'm a reader, but the performance of the narrator is outstanding... this is one to hear.
