About this listen

Love comes along when you least expect it. That's what Duncan Taylor's sister, Scout, tells him. Scout has everything Duncan wants--a happy life with a wonderful husband. Now that Seattle has made gay marriage legal, Duncan knows he can have the same thing. But when he proposes to his boyfriend, Tucker, he doesn't get the answer for which he hoped. Tucker's refusal is another misstep in a long line of failed romances. Despairing, Duncan thinks of all the loving unions in his life--and how every one of them is straight. Maybe he could be happy, if not sexually compatible, with a woman. When zany, gay-man-loving Marilyn Samples waltzes into his life, he thinks he may have found his answer.

Determined to settle, Duncan forgets his sister's wisdom about love and begins planning a wedding with Marilyn. But life throws Duncan a curveball. When he meets wedding planner Peter Dalrymple, unexpected sparks ignite. Neither man knows how long he can resist his powerful attraction to the other. For sure there's a wedding in the future. But whose?

John Solo's a good narrator, story not great

I have tried several of Rick R Reeds books now, and I think it must be me, because many people really like him, but I just don't jive with his stories. He has a nice style but I don't buy his plot lines or bond with his characters well.

I wasn’t as impressed by this story either. I never understood the premise of why a gay man would marry a woman and why anyone would lock themselves into a sexless marriage.
I never connected with either Marilyn or Duncan. Marilyn was introduced to me in Hungry For Love and I thought she was a little too crazy there, but she definitely goes over the top here. Duncan was just so wishy-washy that I never really rooted for him.
I have tried three separate Rick Reed titles and so far have not really found one that I loved. I have liked them and found them interesting but none have really grabbed me by the throat. They always have such a great blurb and lovely covers and get good reviews so I’m attracted to them but I haven’t found the right one for me. I think it’s just a matter of taste at this point. I still feel Rick Reed is a good writer with a very creative mind.

Book: 1.5 stars

Audio:
John Solo did an okay job with his narration. He tries to give slightly different voices to each character and I really appreciate that. To me, the voice he gives Marilyn felt cartoony and it was distracting.
Usually I admire John Solo's work, but this didn't work for me as much as some he's done.

2.5 stars for the audio
