A diehard romantic looking to start over in a small town...

Dr. Nina Benitez might be an astrophysicist and a scientist down to her bones, but she also believes in true love and happily ever after - and won’t settle for anything less. After a rocky end to her first semester teaching at the University of Montana, she’s looking forward to a new school year and a fresh start in the small town of Rifle Creek.

When she meets her roommate’s work partner - a sexy, hard-edged detective - Nina is immediately intrigued. However, it’s soon clear they’re like oil and water. But when she’s confronted by the painful past event she wanted to forget, she faces an even greater danger.

A predator is bent on silencing her forever, and Nina’s only hope of survival is the unattainable man who has captured her heart.

A cynical cop determined to guard his heart...

Tate Baldwin has dedicated his life to serving and protecting, first in the military, and now as a detective in Rifle Creek. Badly burned by his last relationship, he isn’t looking to get involved with anyone, especially a brilliant college professor who seems to have her head in the clouds.

Yet, even Tate can’t deny the attraction between them that soon grows into something more. And when a secret from her past triggers a lethal threat, Tate will risk everything to stand between her and the monster who wants her dead.

Awesome author and performance

Ms Cross is a new author for me and loving this series!! Can't go wrong with ex military and a strong woman combined with Jeffrey Kafer and Heather Costa. Looking forward to listening to other books in the series.

Starry Eyed Romance

This was a delightful listen. The main characters were well developed as were the supporting characters. I could actually picture Rifle Creek, Tate & Avery's homes and the stars in the sky.

Kaylea Cross is a newer author for me, I may have listened to a book previously but cannot recall. Her writing is complete, well rounded & translates well. So well I've already purchased the next 2 in the series. This read has it all love, friendship, family, suspense, mystery, lots of desserts & humorous neighbors.

Narration was shockingly exquisite. Jeffrey Kafer is not one of my favorites but I still enjoy him from time to time. For some reason this time around he sounded better to me. He has definitely moved up on my list!!!

Heather Costa was absolutely delightful as the heroine. She really portrayed the positive professor to perfection. Heather's additional character voices were spot on as well.

While I am looking forward to the next listen in the series i have just a couple of notes for the author Kaylea Cross.
1-- I think when you write a book that has sooooooo many yummy concoctions of the dessert variety that you should include a few of the recipes. Except for the last one that starts with a K.
2-- Not sure if you wrote "San Fran" in the book or if the narrator just added in. As a Bay Area native only tourists & non Natives say, "San Fran." If you were born here you tell others your from "The City" or "SF" or plain old San Francisco.

Worth a credit? Of course but I'm a certified Audible Addict with +2700 books in my Audible library. I hope you enjoy whatever makes you happy. ❤

Easy to listen to

Easy story, good characters, just a sweet story. Not one you’ll remember forever, but I love a small town romance and I’ll get the next one.

Good story, but the narration was lacking

The female narrator ruined it for me. She sounded like a 12yr old with laryngitis, and it was difficult to listen to all the way through.

Enjoyed this story.

This was a good plot, loved Tate and Nina. She wasn’t a bossy female so I thought they fit well. Narrators did a good job as well!

Inhaled balloons?

The story is great! Good tempo along with character and series development. The female performer sounded like she inhaled helium! It was nails on a chalkboard! Also….the flip between male and female orators was ridiculous. When having male and female actors utilize them together. Very very disappointed in the production; enjoyed the story!
