Pamela Des Barres
About this listen
Since rock’s beginnings, there have been groupies. These chosen few women who bed, but not often wed, the musicians of their dreams are almost as much a part of music history as the musicians themselves.
Pamela Des Barres, the world’s foremost supergroupie, here offers an all-access backstage pass to the world of rock stars and the women who love them. Having had her own affairs with legends such as Keith Moon and Jimmy Page--as documented in her bestselling memoir I’m with the Band--Pamela now turns the spotlight onto other women who have found their way into the hearts and bedrooms of some of the world’s greatest musicians. In Let’s Spend the Night Together, she tells, in their own words, the stories of these amazing women who went way beyond the one-night stand.
Here you’ll get to know 24 outrageous groupies, including:
- Tura Satana, Miss Japan Beautiful, who taught Elvis how to dance and gave him lessons in lovemaking.
- Cassandra Peterson, aka Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, who tangled with Tom Jones in Sin City.
- Soulful Miss Mercy, who discovered that not only does the rest of the world listen to Al Green while making love--so does Al Green.
- Cynthia Plaster Caster, who redefined art and made history when Jimi Hendrix plunged his member into her plaster mold.
- The mysterious Miss B, who reveals Kurt Cobain’s penchant for lip gloss and pantyhose.
- And over a dozen more.

Heart, fronted by Ann and Nancy Wilson, has given fans everywhere classic, raw, and pure badass rock and roll for more than three decades. As the only sisters in rock who write their own music and play their own instruments, Ann and Nancy have always stood apart - certainly from their male counterparts but also from their female peers.

James Hetfield, with whom many years ago Mustaine founded a band known as Metallica, once observed, with some incredulity, that Mustaine must have been born with a horseshoe up his ass. That's how lucky he's been, how fortunate he is to be pulling breath after so many close calls. And Hetfield is right. Mustaine has been lucky. He has been blessed. But here's the thing about having a horseshoe lodged in your rectum: It also hurts like hell. And you never forget it's there.

Story
In the second half of the 20th century New York was the source of new sounds, including the Greenwich Village folk scene, punk and new wave, and hip-hop. But as the end of the millennium neared, cutting-edge bands began emerging from Seattle, Austin, and London, pushing New York further from the epicenter. The behemoth music industry, too, found itself in free fall, under siege from technology. Then 9/11/2001 plunged the country into a state of uncertainty and war.

Story
As an A&R man at Epic Records, Tom Werman helped introduce the world to REO Speedwagon, Boston, Ted Nugent, and Cheap Trick; he also discovered KISS, Rush, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, but his record label passed on all of them. Then, as an independent producer, he oversaw landmark albums by Mötley Crüe, Twisted Sister, Lita Ford, Jeff Beck, Poison, and many more. All in all, his record-making resume includes twenty-three gold- or platinum-selling albums and cumulative sales of more than fifty-two million copies.

They were just a couple of tweets, but they propelled actress and Playboy playmate Carrie Stevens into the headlines, as stories swirled about sexual harassment in the movie industry and President Trump’s alleged affairs. Besieged by the media, Carrie was shocked and astounded at the frenzy these tweets aroused. It convinced her that she needed to write her memoir. Her attitude: If they think these stories are sensational, just wait until they hear about all of her life’s adventures.

Story
From the do-or-die early days of self-financed recordings and D.I.Y. concert productions that were as flashy as they were foolhardy, to the multi-platinum, MTV-powered glory years of stadium-shaking anthems and chart-topping power ballads, to the ultimate crash when grunge bands like Nirvana forever altered the entire climate of the business, Tom Beaujour and Richard Bienstock's Nothin' But a Good Time captures the energy and excess of the hair metal years in the words of the musicians and industry insiders who lived it.

John Corabi recounts his life from the mean streets of Philadelphia to the Sunset Strip. Take a look behind the scenes at Corabi’s time fronting Mötley Crüe, Union, and The Dead Daisies, as well as his time playing rhythm guitar with Ratt and even his stint as a long-haul trucker. Whether it’s detailing his parents' difficult divorce, his family’s dark history of abuse, his run-in with a serial killer, or simply the best way to arrive at a wedding—which maybe is by helicopter and maybe it isn’t—he pulls no punches and outlines the good and bad of it all in this raucous autobiography.

In 1984, at the age of 20, Duff McKagan left his native Seattle - partly to pursue music, but mainly to get away from a host of heroin overdoses then-decimating his closest group of friends in the local punk scene. In LA only a few weeks and still living in his car, he answered a want ad for a bass player placed by someone who identified himself only as "Slash." Soon after, the most dangerous band in the world was born. Guns N' Roses went on to sell more than 100 million albums worldwide.

I could have put it down after the Sweet Connie chapter. YUCK! The beginning reminds me of I'm With the Band a book that I loved by Miss Pamela. The romanticized part of the groupie life, sitting in on famous songs being written and some of them being about the girls themselves. The rest of it is dull especially when you get to more modern times. For example, that woman who groupies with her mom and is so proud that she gave kid rock a blowjob. Ew. I hoped Miss Pamela would have interviewed people with better music taste. At least her writing is always witty and to the point but I was hoping to be swept away like I was when reading I'm With the Band and this just left me feeling sad.

Im with the band changes title to lets spend the..
What would have made Let's Spend the Night Together better?
I don't think you could have made it better. This Gal is a one trick pony.
What was most disappointing about Pamela Des Barres’s story?
it is pretty much a rehash of "I'm with the band.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Pamela Des Barres?
Linda Eastman.....oh no, wait ,she's dead. Lets see.....hummm.....I know, Phyllis Diller. Cmon, look it up.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
resignation. I knew from jump street this book was a retread.
Any additional comments?
Why yes, thank you for asking........ The publisher should be dispatched with all due haste.

Time waster
What disappointed you about Let's Spend the Night Together?
I read Pamela Des Barres first book and loved its freshness and honesty. Let’s Spend The Night Together was pretty awful- name dropping, older women talking about their youth is one thing but this was kind of gross, especially in this day and age. Boring.
What was most disappointing about Pamela Des Barres’s story?
There was nothing fresh about it. Pamela’s voice is droning. Nothing she talks about or any of the women interviewed talks about anything interesting at all. Its about tired, boring has beens talking about sex. Nothing about personalities, or what these groupies may have learned while hanging out with the male musicians. I found the whole thing pretty boring and distasteful. Didnt finish it.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Pamela Des Barres?
Dont know.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Let's Spend the Night Together?
Mostly all of them! That is the problem. Unless I was editing with a porn in mind. Then would have had someone with a better speaking voice read it.

This was a bit boring. Didn’t hold my interest. It gets confusing as to if she’s talking about herself or the person the chapter is based on. Pretty disappointing.

Loved it until I started reading moon units book.
I just wish she didn’t glorify it or assume the children’s angle… I’m not done with moons book, and I would consider myself a liberal child of the 70s.
I guess I wish Pam would not have not have mentioned moon at all …Pam could’ve left her out instead of glorifying her as some child prodigy who understood what was going on.
