Publisher's summary

As a certified “hero,” Sergeant Ryck Lysander gets offered a commission as a second lieutenant.

Only, he doesn’t feel like a hero, and his tendency to jump into a fight himself is at odds with his duties as an officer.

When first contact with an alien race turns into a full-blown war, Ryck is thrust into combat once again, and the battle goes poorly.

Before he has time to take a breath, Ryck finds himself in a crisis. Did he make a mistake by accepting the commission? Or will he rise to his newfound position?

With humankind facing an existential threat, one confused former hero won't amount to much. A change from infantry to recon gives him one last chance to prove that he has what it takes to not only be a leader of men...

...but of Marines.

Experience the third entry in the bestselling series from author and retired Marine infantry Colonel Jonathan P. Brazee. If you're a fan of realistic combat, expansive scifi settings and stories, and heartpounding action, you'll love Federation Marine.

Still going strong

glad the series is still good, no real change of writing style or anything. just a man finding himself in some new extra ordinary events and him trying to do his best for him and his men.

Series is growing on me

I started out a little iffy on the series, the first books go by fast and I wanted more. I wasn’t as enthusiastic with this series as I was with Sentenced to War. I think JPB has evolved well as a writer and this series was actually one of his first, so cutting some slack there. You can definitely tell the author is a veteran because he gets the annoying details of military life that only one who has experienced it knows. This brought up strange emotions and I had flashbacks of inspections and parade ground formations. The stories are quick and move fast and I feel there are times more information could have been covered- for example, they are spending lots of time on ships but we almost get dialog while in a ship or what that experience is like. It seems one moment Lysander is at home with his family and next he’s dropped into combat. Regardless I’m committed to this series and it’s been fun enough so far. I wish there was a little more meat on the bones ~7 hours of audiobook is a little lean in my opinion, but I like JPB sci-fi work so I’m on this train to the end.

Good character development

The characters continue to be developed. Interesting outlook on war. Reflects the willingness of the military to do what is necessary.
