Little does she know, this project will plunge her into a dark web of secrets, lies, and deadly consequences. When Emi’s body is discovered and Rhonda’s husband is accused of having an affair with the victim, Rhonda finds herself unearthing a trail of dark secrets that someone is willing to kill to keep buried. This story wove both the characters and plot well! It was developed beautifully and had enough twists to keep you engaged. Well done!

Excellent

The plot was kept me interested, but wanted to see more character development. It was hard to feel invested when you dislike the main character and barely know the others.

The protagonist was unlikable until the last few pages. She was incredibly self absorbed.

It seemed like there were plot holes which made it a bit difficult to be overly invested in the story. Each character had their piece but without that part fleshed out it felt like a disconnect rather than strengthening the arc. I had to start over a few times to get the timing. However,I did like some of the characters. Rhonda was consistently a strong female voice, where Daniel was all over the place. There wasn’t enough given to get a sense for why he left the law, did he still maintain his license to keep showing up at the jail? It felt disparaging referencing the church the way it was done not knowing anything about it. Was it mainstream, bible thumping, or something else. Why did he have a short temper there didn’t seem to have much of an impact on the storyline. These things happen throughout the book for different characters and subplots. Usually I would put this audio in a dnf pile but again the characters were able to keep things afloat to finish. Definitely potential.

Characters were good

This book has so many twists. I was so engrossed; I couldn't stop listening. Sarah Gadon is an excellent narrator. A great book read by a great narrator is an excellent way to spend my time!

But it was poorly written. I agree with the other review about the formula. Lots of incredibly cliche phrases and random rhymes throughout, “the story and glory”, disconnected moments - she was soaking wet to a point where her T shirt was uncomfortable but then when he cried on her shoulder a few minutes later he moved away and her shoulder was damp… like duh. Then there’s the narrator. Every other voice besides the main character she makes sounds stupid. It’s hard to take them serious. Tried too hard with this one. Sorry.

I had to finish it….

Hard to listen to the characters voices that don't fit them and sound so fake. Story lines has holes, main character is unbelievable etc.

it was free

I feel like the plot had a lot of potential, but the mark was completely missed. Fairly predictable, the past stories never did come to full fruition in the future.

I did make it all the way through, but jusy barely.

Average. Not bad, not great, just right down the middle.
