About this listen

Don't trust everyone you meet here…

A young British backpacker goes missing on the West Coast Trail.

No one is sure whether she died or simply disappeared.

Apart from Laura.

Twenty years later, a body has been found.

And there's only one person who could reveal the secret that Laura's been hiding all this time.

But she knows that two can keep a secret.

IF ONE OF THEM IS DEAD.

A tense and suspenseful thriller perfect for fans of M.J. Ford and Susi Holliday.

Very good story, I got a bit confused along the way as I thought the main character was someone else- not sure where the twist lost me but by the end it was easy to follow.

Kept me locked in-

I’m so glad that I stayed. My attention span recently has been getting increasingly better. But dang this book almost lost me a couple times. I was so upset at so many parts but it was simply because I didn’t understand the full picture yet and you’re not gonna get it until the end. Overall I loved this book. It feels like I was being edged for an entirely long period of time. I finally got it. Hands down 10 out of 10.

It was a slow start but damn it EXPLODED

The book is interesting enough to keep mystery lovers entertained. The back and forth with the dates might get a bit tiring but it's easy enough to follow until it gets to the last few chapters, then you need to pay more attention.
Unfortunately, the performer doesn't make much effort to differentiate the voices, including the males. Without the reference of who just spoke, it gets a bit annoying. However, her accent and pronunciation are just delightful!

Interesting plot. Performance could improve.

The Hiking Trip's plot is very interesting and the narrator was superb. However, if it wasn't so repetitive, I think it would be a much shorter book. From the protagonist's constant reminder of her secrets and lies to the continued claims of needing to protect her family when in reality she's only interested in protecting the life she's built on herself, the repetitiveness is off the charts. It doesn't help that the protagonist is super unlikeable. Actually, almost all the characters are unlikeable except for the protagonist's children. I think it might have helped her likeability if her chapters weren't in first person. At least in third person, it would've created a bit of a distance for the reader/listener. I wish the author hadn't decided to switch back and forth between first and second person as character perspectives changed. With the story moving from the present to the past on top of all that, the details of the story can easily get muddled. Despite this, I still recommend The Hiking Trip. You'll definitely want to know how it ends.

Repetitive

Loved the story, loved the narrator. It kept me guessing without being overly complicated, and there was plenty of intrigue and tension. I’ll be reading more of this author!

Can’t believe this was free!

The best part was the ending. What I love about this novel was the unpredictability. The way the author chose to end this book will leave you stunned. Read it

The ending was the most shocking part.
