A young British backpacker goes missing on the West Coast Trail.

No one is sure whether she died or simply disappeared.

Apart from Laura.

Twenty years later, a body has been found.

And there's only one person who could reveal the secret that Laura's been hiding all this time.

But she knows that two can keep a secret.

IF ONE OF THEM IS DEAD.

A tense and suspenseful thriller perfect for fans of M.J. Ford and Susi Holliday.

The Hiking Trip's plot is very interesting and the narrator was superb. However, if it wasn't so repetitive, I think it would be a much shorter book. From the protagonist's constant reminder of her secrets and lies to the continued claims of needing to protect her family when in reality she's only interested in protecting the life she's built on herself, the repetitiveness is off the charts. It doesn't help that the protagonist is super unlikeable. Actually, almost all the characters are unlikeable except for the protagonist's children. I think it might have helped her likeability if her chapters weren't in first person. At least in third person, it would've created a bit of a distance for the reader/listener. I wish the author hadn't decided to switch back and forth between first and second person as character perspectives changed. With the story moving from the present to the past on top of all that, the details of the story can easily get muddled. Despite this, I still recommend The Hiking Trip. You'll definitely want to know how it ends.

Loved the story, loved the narrator. It kept me guessing without being overly complicated, and there was plenty of intrigue and tension. I’ll be reading more of this author!

The best part was the ending. What I love about this novel was the unpredictability. The way the author chose to end this book will leave you stunned. Read it

The ending was the most shocking part.

This turned out to be a very good story. It was filled with suspense and drama. I liked the main characters struggle with her choices and the ending was quite a surprise.

Really good story

I really enjoyed the narration. The story roped me in quickly all through until...

**subtle SPOILERS**

... Near the end, the writer began doing some slow reveals. That was great until things got confusing. It was tricky to understand just whose story I'd been listening to up to a point. Also, when some of the main reveals began to come together, I felt that the writer had sort of cheated - or maybe been lazy about tying things together. Thing *did* come together, but the writer could have made the landing a lot smoother.

Great ride, bumpy landing

This book was pretty good. I liked how it went back and forth between time periods and that it attempted to be twisty. The characters were ok and there were a few parts where I was just kind of like, "Come on, really?" The narrator was good but some people had accents and then some didn't (Canada and UK) so it was a challenge. Nice overall effort though. It was free.

Not Bad

I didn’t see that coming. Some of it I had figured out, but it was not what I thought! Excellent!

As twisted as the western trail
