Publisher's summary

Narrated by Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton, Derry Girls)

From Anne Griffin, the best-selling author of When All is Said, comes Listening Still, a refreshing new novel about a young woman who can hear the dead - a talent which is both a gift and a curse.

Jeanie Masterson has a gift: She can hear the recently dead and give voice to their final wishes and revelations. Inherited from her father, this gift has enabled the family undertakers to flourish in their small Irish town. Yet she has always been uneasy about censoring some of the dead's last messages to the living. Unsure, too, about the choice she made when she left school seventeen years ago: to stay or leave for a new life in London with her charismatic teenage sweetheart.

So when Jeanie's parents unexpectedly announce their plan to retire, she is jolted out of her limbo. In this captivating successor to her much-lauded debut, When All Is Said, Anne Griffin portrays a young woman who is torn between duty, a comfortable marriage, a calling she both loves and hates and her last chance to break free. Listening Still is a heartachingly honest look at what we give up and what we gain when we choose to follow our heart.

The oddest book I’ve ever read

This book was the oddest book I have ever listened to. The story was interesting and the narration excellent. I’d like to see what happens to the characters in a future book! It was really good!

So unique!

Loved this book and the characters. Family, love, responsibility, regret, dreams, and finding your way through this crazy life. Anne Griffin has you relate to and fall in love with her colorful Irish characters.

The narration was lovely and perfect for an audible listen!

The narration was perfect!!

It is a great story. I, personally, would have liked a slightly happier ending but it was good

Wonderfully magical

I waited with anticipation on Anne Griffin’s follow up to When All Is Said and this did not disappoint. The idea that someone could speak to the dead intrigued me but it did not over cloud the complex life of Jeanie Masterson. A book of anticipation only to find yourself at peace in the end. Highly recommended.

Beautiful story telling

I’ve read some highly rated books lately that have left me disappointed with weak dialogue, lame plot twists and ridiculous conclusions, but I was really impressed by this sweet, engaging and incredibly well written story. Wonderful, we’ll developed characters, deep story lines and a poignancy that brought me to tears. LOVED this book❤️

The narrator

The narration is too wonderful. Coughlin captures every character and the backgrounds just right. Beautiful story.

Very, Very Slow

This is a story of a girl that makes bad decisions about her love life. I got half way through the book and I'm done. Talking to the dead is a very small part of the story. I thought it would be the interesting part but the main character only blames her life choices on it. The reader has a pretty voice however she takes very long pauses between sentences making the story even slower. It's a sad depressing book.
