About this listen

Hattie Murton never dreamed of TV stardom. A straight-from-a-fairytale encounter with a casting agent somehow landed her a part on what she’d thought would be a one-off pilot for Leicester Square, a bodice-ripping drama adapted from a bestselling romance novel. Buoyed by a surge in demand for romantic dramas, the show instead propelled its core cast to household-name status within a month.

Hattie tries to look on the positive side of all situations, but four seasons of brutal press, overly invested fans, and a cutthroat industry that’s never quite felt like the right fit would give even Pollyanna an edge of cynicism. And high on the ‘con’ list when it comes to her current and unintended career is having to share a set and some horrendously early starts with Anthony Rafe. Leicester Square villain. A-lister. Absolute prat.

In the new season’s scripts, it appears that her previously sane, rational character is about to lose her mind and begin an unexpected and unsettlingly graphic affair with the series villain. Forced into close—very close and very…intimate—proximity with the man everyone loves to hate, Hattie’s horror is matched only by Anthony’s drawling disdain. But when very real chemistry sparks during their scripted love scenes, Hattie begins to think the industry’s legendarily heartless Bad Guy might just have a pulse after all. And Anthony, for his part, is caught off-guard by the way his heart races when he’s around his aggravating onscreen lover.

As reality starts to imitate art a little too close for comfort, the world’s most unlikely couple might just have more in common than they thought…

Amazing

Nicola Coughlan’s performance for the different characters was stunning. Another talent she surprised me with! Gwilym Lee was also wonderful. I hope this can be a future Rom/Com movie or more from the author. Great description for picturing the scenes and characters. Loved the feel of being behind the scenes of filming the period piece show.

frictional back stage story of "Bridgerton"

First of all: No, it's not the back stage fictional story of the actors of Bridgerton (sadly) BUT with Nicola as the FMC narrator and the regency fictional TV show actress in this book, ut definitely feels like it!
The romance and characters are well built and the "Haters to lovers" progression is quite lovely.
I have to say that the beginning was a bit confusing but soon enough you understand what is going on... When it's a "stage acting" description and when it's "real life" charaters description...
NO SEX just a charming Love story, so Smut affectionati this book is not the one for you but for the charming romance addicts this one is for you.

Lovely narration

The story was cute and simple but definitely elevated by the performances from the narrators.

Good

Fun slow burn romance. There was so much to like, especially the MCs. They make a great couple. Their past pains were nicely revealed & managed. It was a touch confusing going back and forth between their real life and the TV series characters. I'd catch myself shaking my head then having to rewind to get my bearings. There were also WAY too many sub-characters, many were superfluous story threads that lead nowhere. Unfortunately, it felt like rambling or filler and didn’t as much add to the story than it detracted from it. Also, I was a tiny bit disappointed in the ending. It should have been swoonworthy but it just felt off with this weird event happening and the continued tension between the males went off on yet another superfluous thread never before introduced.

The narration was very good. Strangely, as I'm a huge Bridgerton 3 fan, I wasnt as thrilled with Nicola Coughlan's performance as I was with Gwilym Lee's. Which was exceptional.

Humor-filled modern romance

So, I admit to some disappointment because I had initially thought it would be a dramatization. Nonetheless, it kept my attention and I enjoyed Mid-Directed. A typical happy-ever-after romance, but humor & smart dialogue make it stand out. Lots of winks & nods to the whole Bridgerton phenomena as the couple are actors who play characters on a TV show that combines Regency era drama with loads of sex & intrigue. Having Nicola Coughlan (who plays Penelope on Bridgerton) as one of the narrators was a fun touch. Her counterpart narrator, Gwilym Lee, is a good match to her.

Great story

I enjoyed this story very much. I could feel the passion they felt for each other silently. I loved both narrators.

Great narration

I love Lucy Parker but this wasn’t her best. There wasn’t enough conflict for the protagonists to overcome in being together, maybe? And some of the scenes were repetitive if you’ve read her other work—for example, lead stays with other lead while their family member is in hospital. Still, it was enjoyable. The (celebrity) narration was excellent and that’s saying a lot coming from me because I prefer to read romance novels with my eyes. Would be great if this could be released as an e-book.

Lovely and Delightful

I loved everything - the story, the characters, the narrators, the humor, the romance. I really enjoy the arrogant, impatient, disdainful male lead characters Lucy Parker creates for some reason. Maybe because the female lead characters see through and cut through those aspects and the guys don’t act that way with who they love. Anthony and Hattie fit that bill to a T.
