About this listen

In a city divided and broken, this revelation will set it on fire...

Attorney Justin Glass's practice, housed in a shabby office on the north side of Saint Louis, isn't doing so well that he can afford to work for free. But when eight-year-old Tanisha Walker offers him a jar full of change to find her missing brother, he doesn't have the heart to turn her away.

Justin had hoped to find the boy alive and well. But all that was found of Devon Walker was his brutally murdered body - and the bodies of twelve other African American teenagers, all discarded like trash in a mass grave. Each had been reported missing. And none had been investigated.

As simmering racial tensions explode into violence, Justin finds himself caught in the tide. And as he gives voice to the discontent plaguing the city's forgotten and ignored, he vows to search for the killer who preys upon them.

Not what I expected

This is not a type of book I typical read. I realize this is a book of fiction but feel these type of things happen everyday in our country and was very eye opening.

Like that it had mystery and real world issues.

A book every one of us should read...

We can never be reminded too often to read the things that expand our empathy and our understanding of what people must face each day to survive.

Attorney Justin Glass and his story would make the beginning of a good series!

J.D. Stanford is a gifted writer whose writing flows. His story of St. Louis attorney, Justin Glass, is well written, with both good plot and character development. I switched between the kindle book and audiobook. JD Jackson is an excellent narrator who does well at switching between different characters without taking away from the flow of the story. The basic plot involves Justin Glass, a single father who is trying to handle his daughter’s problems, while struggling to develop his small law office in a rundown area in the north of St. Louis. Justin Glass needs to build a clientele to make some money, but he has a hard time turning down a young girl who wants Justin to take on the case of her missing brother. Justin is skeptical about taking on the case, but he can’t help but think about how he would feel if his daughter were missing. As he starts investigating, he finds a pattern involving several boys on probation who are missing, including some who are found murdered. Although Justin is working with a police detective on the case, there doesn’t appear to be much evidence regarding the missing boys. Justin is concerned when it becomes apparent that someone in the legal system might be involved in the boys’ deaths.

intriguing read.

narrator was great.
this novel is a perfect example of what's going on in this society. the judicial system being corrupt. Sad, but true. especially the part when we realize that a judge, a legal high authority was the killer. I had my suspicions & he was one of them. a brilliant read.
