Publisher's summary

With money and hope in short supply, newly minted attorney Brigham Theodore decides it’s time to lower his standards. He joins a seedy fly-by-night firm in Salt Lake City out of desperation. After he loses his first case - a speeding ticket - he’s convinced his career is over. But to his shock, his boss hands him a slightly more complex case: capital murder.

Brigham’s new client is Amanda Pierce, a lost, exhausted woman who gunned down the man who tortured and killed her six-year-old daughter. A jury may prove sympathetic to her unbearable pain, but the law is no fan of vigilante justice - and neither is Vince Dale, the slick and powerful prosecutor who’s never lost a murder case. There’s no question that Amanda pulled the trigger - she did it in front of five witnesses. If she pleads guilty, she will avoid a death sentence, but saving her life this way comes with an admission that what she did was wrong. However, if she refuses the “guilty” label, Brigham will have no choice but to fight for his career - and Amanda’s life.

Four Stars Until Closing Argument

I can overlook the improbability that a new lawyer gets a capital murder case. It was a little more unbelievable yet that none of the lawyers were very worried/hopeful that the jury would be sympathetic to a mother who has lost her child to a heinous criminal when she also happens to be a crippled war veteran. I still thought it was a good, though one dimensional, story.
The closing argument for the defense was so pointless and irrelevant. It was an attack on the system that favored the rich and fought an unjust war in Iraq. Where did that come from?! There was no tie-in to anything that had come before in the story. Almost as if the author suddenly decided to take a shot at Republicans he had always wanted to.

average law story

the story itself has no surprises but the main character is quite likeable. I probably won't listen to any sequels because my wish list is already full of better authors. there is nothing wrong with this book however.

The Neon Lawyer

I really enjoyed this book. First book I’ve read by this author. It kept my interest. Chapter 30 was powerful. I was crying by the end.

Enjoyable Read

This book is not factually accurate but is still an enjoyable read. The story kept me guessing so much that I didn't want to quit listening. I am anxious to try another one o9f Victor Methos' books. Hope it hold my attention the way The Neon Lawyer did.

A good, solid read!

Forget the why's and wherefore's of true legal process, this is a good and enjoyable read and well narrated by Nick Podehl.

I thought Brigham Theodore was a great character, with a good back story and suffering the same challenges that most young newly qualified people do; finding a job.

I thought Victor Methos did a great job of building his characters, giving them life, and regardless of other reviewers, I thought the courtroom action was true entertainment.

There is one piece featuring a witness late in the trial that I thought was true genius and I was rooting for Brigham all the way.

I am looking forward to reading the follow up to this story.

I would like to thank the author/narrator for providing me a copy of this book, free of charge, in return for an unbiased review.

Too short and thus why free

Could've been much better. Audio just over 4 hrs. Says unabridged. More detail would have been nice.

Quick Read

This reminded me of a John Grisham novel if I could compare it to something mainstream. It is a quicker listen ( or read) and the characters aren't as developed but it keeps moving and keeps your interest. If you are a fan of lawyer/ law type books this is right up your alley

A little hokey but enjoyable.

Same old lawyer defends victim against bad guys and who ever heard of an Ukrainian lawyer. Just the right read for someone who needs to put the story down to go on with life's other duties.
