Classic!

I listened to this book on audio. I was a little put off initially because it was so preachy. Once I put myself in the time frame that the book was written I let down my guard and found it absolutely charming. There are so many life lessons throughout in the plot and I became completely absorbed in each character. My favorite was Jo because I could relate to her clumsiness and being social awkward, but there was something I could identify with in each character as well as something to admire. Of course this is true with every individual, but the author demonstrated it in such a lovely way. Now I need to buy the book because it would be easy to pick it up and just enjoy little senarios when I am in the mood.

I do not recommend listening to it in public towards the end of the book. I made a right fool of myself out gardening in my front yard, crying at the loss of a favorite character. You have been warned.

A Flash from the Past

Little Women seems sappy and sentimental from a modern point of view, but still it was fun to revisit this book that I read as a kid, and the characters are still well-drawn and appealing.

Great book, flat reading—updated review

Alcott's Little Women is a great book. I wasn't enamored of the reader, who sounded smug and made the characters flat. I had a hard time hearing the differences in the many characters, especially Teddy.

Updated:
I’m relistening to the story with my youngest, now 12. The story keeps us listening, but the narrator is more annoying than before. At times, she sounds robotic and reminds me of Siri or Alexa. Find a different reader if you can.

find a better narrator

This is a great book (one of my favorites) but I would recommend finding a different reader. This is not a great version it makes the story really drag. Spend the extra money for a better narrator.

Boring

A painfully boring narrative. Was that supposed to entertain women? If so, it didn't age well. I took about one hour of it and could no longer stand this bunch of goody-two-shoes.

Not giving it my time

I wanted to listen to this because I had just listened to March and really enjoyed the story and the recording of it. It seemed natural to go directly to Little Women and hear about the other part of the family in this time period. The recording is fine. My problem is the context of Little Women. I would not want my child to read this book. It, I believe, demeans women and presents outdated and absurd philosophies. I listened for a couple of hours and then deleted it.
