About this listen

The New York Times and #1 internationally bestselling Department Q series comes to a thrilling conclusion when the team must turn inward to solve the cold case that has put their own leader behind bars, a place where his enemies are plentiful and time is quickly running out.

On the day after Christmas, head of Department Q, Detective Carl Mørck, finds himself handcuffed in a police car headed for Copenhagen's Vestre prison. After fifteen years, a violent case from his past has caught up with him. Charges of drug trafficking and murder threaten to destroy his life and career. But he is being framed. Someone has a million-dollar bounty on his head to make sure he doesn't talk, putting him in grave danger among the prison's incarcerated criminals and corrupt officers. The question that remains is, Why?

Carl's colleagues at the Copenhagen Police Department instantly turn their backs on him, leaving the ever-loyal Department Q team as his only hope. In search of answers, Rose, Assad, and Gordon must disobey direct orders from way up the chain to try to unravel the case. With only one another to trust and Carl's battle against the unknown mastermind's henchmen worsening by the day, they must work faster than ever before if they are to clear his name—and save his life.

Fantastic Finale

I am going to miss the hell outta these characters, and their exploits!! One of my all time fave mystery series, and the way the author brought everything full circle was simply beautiful…. Only bad thing about entire series was the near constant change of narrators…. Pronunciations and accents kept changing….

Is this the last?

As usual, an excellent book that you can’t put down, but I am sad thinking that this was the last one, if as indicated at the end

This is the last chapter in one of the best detective series available. Very engaging, with wonderfully full characters!

JUSSI ADLER-OLSON NEVER DISAPPOINTS

This story needed to be told to clear up many references in past books. Although, I’m not a fan of prison stories, it held my interest. Overall, a good read, especially if you’ve read all of Jussi Adler-Olson’s Department Q novels in order!

New narrator doesn't match up to previous narrator

This is a great story as are all of the Department Q novels, but the switch in narrators was a mistake. The accents are all over the place, especially Assad, which I can't even figure out. It's definitely unlike any Middle Eastern accent that I've heard. The camel similes just don't have the same effect. Disappointing. I would rather have read the print version.

is this really the end, my friend...........

I spent most of this book wondering if Carl was going to be killed by the bad actors and that's how the series would end. You couldn't miss that this was supposed to be the last book in the series, it seemed to be stated everywhere. But with a little research, looking it up in the author's website mostly, the series was always intended to be a 10-book series.

But since Carl doesn't get killed off, we fans can always hope that in some way, shape or form the series or a subset thereof could appear at some point. Probably not but we can always hope.

I will state that the first book in the series, 'The Keeper of Lost Causes' is one of my all-time favorite books and spurred me on to look forward to and enjoy the author and the rest of the books in the series.

And, this story, it's a good one. There are lots of references to characters and instances from earlier in the series, the author kind of tidying up things as he ends the series.

Thank you, Jussi Adler-Olsen for Department Q!

A bit long but very nice conclusion of series

Great conclusion of a series that I have enjoyed a lot. Great characters and the author tied up all loose threads in a nice bow. However the first half of the book is drifting a bit and feels unnecessarily long. Second half has got a good drive/edge. One major setback was the switch of narrators. The new guy tried his best but using UK accents for the different characters just felt off. Not to mentioned what happened with the Dutch characters’ accents?!That said I don’t think you will be disappointed if you’ve followed Carl, Assad, Rose and Gordon over the years.

Narrator is different

While the story was compelling this male narrator can’t do female voices very well and most of the other voices sound like a Peter Lorre impersonation especially the gangster criminals
All-a Casablanca or the Maltese Falcon.

Repeat offender- in all the right ways!

Jussi Adler Olsen has once again written a spectacular page turner featuring Department Q. It might be my favorite! Highly recommend the entire series.
