About this listen

Calling all fans of myths, action-adventure, and the Percy Jackson series - don't miss this first book in the Blackwell Pages trilogy from best-selling authors K. L. Armstrong and Melissa Marr.

While 13-year-old Matt Thorsen has always known he's a modern-day descendent of Thor, he's been living a normal kid's life. In fact, most people in the small town of Blackwell, South Dakota, are direct descendants of either Thor or Loki, including Matt's classmates Fen and Laurie Brekke. No big deal. But now Ragnarok is coming, and it's up to the champions to fight in the place of the long-dead gods. Matt, Laurie, and Fen's lives will never be the same as they race to put together an unstoppable team, find Thor's hammer and shield, and prevent the end of the world.

In their middle grade debut, best-selling authors K. L. Armstrong and Melissa Marr begin the epic Blackwell Pages series with this action-packed adventure, filled with larger-than-life legends, gripping battles, and an engaging cast of characters who bring the myths to life.

I confess to being skeptical this story could bring anything new to this classic tale, but this fast became my favorite telling ever. The choice of scene and perspective to describe the inner thoughts and experiences brought a lot of depth and passion to the read. I kept getting choked up at how real the experiences felt to life - falling in love, sacraficing for those you love, the complexities of family... it was phenomenal. It's a feel-good story that felt tangible and authentic.

Unexpected treasure of love and sacrafice

I really like this book felt like it was something that can hold my interest for hours and I really don’t dislike anything about it and I could read this book over and over again

My son and I love these books, but it was a little difficult for me to listen to. There are 3 narrators and they don't read with much enthusiasm or emphasis. The female voice almost sounds like a robot. It could have been done so much better!

Great story, poor naration

The story was fantastic, great for all ages, and descriptive. There was a lot of hooks and unique storylines for each character.

I actually prefer this to Rick’s Norse mythology fictional book. The reason I say that is because unlike the Magnus Chase series there is no politics whatsoever. This means you get all the fun action and none of the snooze fest that comes with the social justice warrior authoring.

Thank you for the breath of fresh air!

Would you consider the audio edition of Loki's Wolves to be better than the print version?

We didn't read the print version. It is well-suited to an audio version.

What other book might you compare Loki's Wolves to and why?

Very much along the lines of the Rick Riordan books, though it suffers a bit by comparison. At the beginning, i was a bit disappointed, thinking it didn't live up either in the story or the narration to the Riordan audios. By the end, though, I very much appreciated it, My son (age 12) was drawn in from the beginning. It helped to tide him over to the next Riordan book!

Any additional comments?

Very educational in the way that the Riordan books are. We both learned a lot about Norse mythology in a very fun way.

Good for Riordan fans; improves as story continues

Lovely, just lovely

A fun series that brings Norse mythology into the modern world, but without some of the more tasteless aspects of similar works by the likes of Rick Riordan. The first book has one unfortunate moment in which a main character contrasts Valkyries he meets with the somewhat sexualized depiction he’s seen previously, but it’s a short bit and easily skipped over.

Not a bad series
