About this listen

The fifth entry in the CWA Gold Dagger-winning Slough House series featuring Jackson Lamb.

London Rules might not be written down, but everyone knows rule one: Cover your arse.

At MI5 headquarters Regent's Park, First Desk Claude Whelan is learning this the hard way. Tasked with protecting a beleaguered prime minister, he's facing attack from all directions himself: from the showboating MP who orchestrated the Brexit vote and now has his sights set on Number 10; from the showboat's wife, a tabloid columnist, who's crucifying Whelan in print; from the PM's favorite Muslim, who's about to be elected mayor of the West Midlands, despite the dark secret he's hiding; and especially from his own deputy, Lady Di Taverner, who's alert for Claude's every stumble. Meanwhile, the country's being rocked by an apparently random string of terror attacks.

Over at Slough House, the MI5 satellite office for outcast and demoted spies, the agents are struggling with personal problems: repressed grief, various addictions, retail paralysis, and the nagging suspicion that their newest colleague is a psychopath. Plus someone is trying to kill Roddy Ho. But collectively, they're about to rediscover their greatest strength- the ability to make a bad situation much, much worse.

Basically I love all the Slough House books. So why not this one as well.

Slough House strikes again

The Slow Horses series is my current favorite series. I love the sarcasm and dry humor. Narrator is perfect for the series. The opening and closing descriptions are also great. Just a great book.

Another Great Book in the Slow Horses series.

Please Mick Herron! Give us a whole series that’s just Jackson’s backstory and exploits during the Cold War!

Please Mick Herron! We want prequels!

Well written and well read. Excellent character development. Allusions to British politics and spycraft can be a little challenging, but are easily resolved. Best to read this series in order.

A Stunner

For so many years no spy could outdo Smiley…but Lamb has done it. Will listen and read again.

From Smiley to Lamb

Love the Slough house inhabitants, especially Lamb. Also, Lady Di—how conniving each is!. Narration excellent!

Great story!

This series is well worth reading and watching. Actually watching before you read the first book is a good idea, as you can picture Slough House and the characters making it a little more interesting.

Excellent author

Nothing. Look forward to Joe country. First book that was tied into Apple series. There

Best book in series thus far.

Fans of Jackson Lamb and his band of MI-5 f***-ups will laugh out loud, but the book also has a poignancy and an unwavering respect for its flawed characters. I want to reread the whole series from the beginning.

Best one yet!
