Colleen Coble
USA Today best-selling author Colleen Coble delivers romance and suspense in a beautiful West Texas setting.
Five years ago, Shannon Astor left the beautiful high-mountain country of West Texas as a single mother. She was desperate for a fresh start and a way to keep the secrets of her past buried. It almost worked.
Until a chance to make a better life for her daughter leads her right back home. To the very place of the past betrayals.
But it also leads Shannon to horse-trainer Jack MacGowan - her handsome high-school nemesis, now a widowed father. His daughter looks so startlingly like her own that Shannon can't help but question the circumstances surrounding her daughter's birth. Wary of each other's intentions, Shannon and Jack reluctantly join forces to untangle a deep mystery that swirls around Shannon's parents, a lost Spanish treasure, and a legendary black stallion.
If Shannon can learn to entrust her secrets to the man falling in love with her, the truth just might set her free.

This is my second reading of this narrative. I just finished Book I, so I had a better understanding of characters and setting. I thought that in reading Book 2 again I would have a broader view of the writer’s purpose. She seems to be describing life in the Texas desert areas. I am drawn to stories with horses and dogs, and this novel has both.
I did become exasperated with our main character because she wouldn’t be honest and straightforward when that choice was plainly needed.

Maybe one or two of the events could be believable, but too many unrealistic side-plots.

I don't know if it's because this book is the same exact story as the first one or if it really truly is terrible. I found myself rolling my eyes throughout the whole book. the main character- and the love interest too, for that matter, are overly dramatic about everything. probably just to extend the story. the situations are unbelievable and I'm surprised that the intended audience isn't, middle school city girls dreaming about horses and cowboys, but no, I assure you, I got this book from the adult section at the library.
I did try to find something good about this book. the only thing I could think of was, my dreams of becoming an author are not hopeless if these books were somehow able to be published.
One Huge Eyeroll
