A sea devil who’s reckless at heart....
Captain Connor Merrick’s thirst for danger has brought him fame and fortune as one of the most brazenly successful privateers of the War of 1812. But deep beneath his swagger, derring-do and charm, the handsome American captain is hiding a devastating secret, and he’ll go to any lengths to protect it....
A beauty who gets more than she bargained for....
Rhiannon Evans has longed for an adventure - and a mysterious, dangerous man to sweep her off her feet. While enroute to the tropical paradise of Barbados, she never dreams that her heart will be captured by the dashing American privateer who rescues her from bloodthirsty pirates. Only Rhiannon can see beneath Connor’s reckless façade to the man beneath. But when tragedy strikes, can Rhiannon’s love save Connor from himself? Or will the secret he guards so carefully, end up being the undoing of them both?

The hero was likable, believable and worthy of being a hero. The heroine, was looking for adventure and boy did she get what she wanted. The chemistry between the H/H was genuine and together they grew a strong bond. A captivating story with great supporting characters.
My biggest disappointment was with the narrator and I struggle with whether I love him or hate him. If he had just read the story without trying to do the women's voices I would have given him 5 stars. He has a sumptuous reading voice which I thoroughly enjoyed. It took me a long time to accept his women's tones, sometimes he would hit the mark but often he did not.
The story was long, very descriptive and by the time I was at the last 2-3 hours I was sobbing. I knew the characters well and I was fully invested in their lives. It would not serve you well to know details so you must listen. Very much worth a credit.

When I first read Lord of the Sea, a few years ago, it had a true emotional impact on me. The story stayed with me for days – I just couldn’t stop thinking about it! I had never read such a beautiful story that had the power to make me laugh but then to gut me later, or to make me literally grieve for the characters and then fill me with hope and reassurance. I was in awe of the author’s mind, that she could craft such a stunningly brilliant portrait of a family that I felt as if I knew them. It was then Danelle Harmon became my favorite romance author. I’ve re-read the story several times since then, and each time I have literally felt a different aspect and seen the characters from a different perspective. At each re-reading, they’ve all been true to life, even though the plot is set in the early 1800’s and times were different then.
Once the audio version became available, narrated by Wayne Farrell, I knew I had to listen. I’ve heard him narrate other books by Ms. Harmon, so I had expectations. He more than did the story justice! What I like about this narrator is that he seems to perform the story in the moment, as if he is there in that character. He just makes the dialogue flow effortlessly. His interpretation of the emotions is always spot on. Hearing him read Lord of the Sea made the story even more real to me and I ended up listening to it twice. It is definitely worth the credit!
Stunning!! Ten Stars!

Pirate, privateer, ships captain and sexy sexy shirtless, barefoot and in his cut off pants, Connor has his issues with his true self and his family, his father, the legend, the builder of the American schooner Kestrel.
It was love at first sight for Rhiannon and she will never leave him. And that's what his Da said to his Ma aboard their home. I have never gotten teary eyed at the reading of a romance novel but damn, this was painful. Remembrances of the old couple in the movie Titanic ... (wipes away tears.)
I have listened to all of Ms. Harmon's books read by Wayne Farrell, an Irishman. I totally fell for Rory in The Wayward One.
Believable characters, wonderful sailing history and great sex is had in Barbados. Yummy.
