About this listen

A Regency romance on the high seas. Two hearts yearning to find a safe harbor, and possibly, a lasting love.

As a young girl, Georgana Woodall dreamed of beautiful dresses, fancy balls, and falling in love. However, when her mother dies, she cannot face a future under the guardianship of her abusive grandmother and instead chooses to join her father on his ship disguised as his cabin boy, “George”.

Lieutenant Dominic Peyton has no time in his life for love, not with his dedication to His Majesty’s Royal Navy claiming his full attention. While trying to adjust to a new crew, he strives to be an exemplary officer and leader. When he sees the captain’s cabin boy being harassed by the crew, he immediately puts a stop to it and takes the “boy” under his wing. After discovering a number of clues, Dominic deduces that George is really a woman. Knowing that revealing the cabin boy’s secret would put her in serious danger from the rowdy crew, Dominic keeps silent and hides his growing affection for her.

Georgana is quickly losing her heart to Dominic’s compassion and care but is convinced nothing can come of her affection. She cannot continue to live her life on the sea, and having already missed too many seasons in London, her chances of being welcomed back into polite society and finding a suitable husband are quickly slipping away.

Georgana’s Secret is about two hearts yearning to find a safe harbor, and possibly, a lasting love.

The story's premise was interesting. But as you can imagine, life aboard a ship was fraught with peril, much if it sad. I only listened when I was in the mood to handle a little depression.

Heavy story... sadness and tension.

The storyline of this book was great! It was well developed, entertaining and it didn’t drag. I really enjoyed it. The inflection the narrator uses is very distracting and annoying. She is a talented narrator outside of the odd inflection. I enjoyed her tone and the different character voices, but the inflection overshadowed her otherwise great performance.

Great Story; Off putting Narration

The story keeps my attention; and wonder how long she will be able to keep the secret…

I like stories with strong female characters…

Not a dull chapter in this story. Although it was a love story, it was so much more.

I really loved this story. It sent me on a ship-book reading binge. It was different in that the girl wasn't a stowaway, and her life aboard was a bit different from similarly premised stories. Couldn't stop once I started, my kind of tale & narrator. Kudos to both!

Can't wait to read what the author writes next!

Splendid!

Loved the story, however the cadence of the narrator was difficult to listen to. It was difficult to stay engaged. I see the next book by this author has a different narrator so I look forward to listening to it

Great story frustrating narration

I liked the story. Most of it kept my interest. I had a hard time with the way the narrator ended every sentence, it was not what I am used to hearing. By the end of the book, I had gotten used to it. I do not know if I would listen to her again.

it took some time

Wonderful story! The reader was just a bit monotone for my liking. Absolutely loved the story though, I don’t regret listening!

Had a hard time liking the reading…

I worried this book would lack depth in romance or action as a "proper romance" because I'd equated that with "tame Hallmark Christmas movie," but it was perfect! It has a woman in interesting fighting and action roles with complex feelings about them--the sort of adventurous things women actually like to read about. It has pirates and mutiny and blood and death--but expertly cut scenes a super gross blood moment. It has a swoony slow burn romance. There are spicy kisses, paired with emotional depth--but nothing you'd need to pause if a kid wanders into the room. Honestly, spicy kisses and wrapped up ending. Try it.

The narrator is great! Good men's and women's voices and pleasant English accent. I'd read a shopping list if it was voiced by this narrator. The novel content also felt well-researched. Never had a moment where I was like, "but that couldn't happen."

Sweet and Spicy Yo Ho

I love the twists this story takes me on! Georgana’s Secret is a must read if you like adventure, romance and a heroine learning to grow from adversary.
