About this listen

Unlucky in life and in love....

Like a lot of people, I was dealt a bad hand. I was raised haphazardly in the foster-care system and emerged less than prepared to deal with adulthood, but I tried to count my blessings and make the best of the hand I was dealt. Still, with three part-time jobs, a mountain of debt, and a shaky marriage, I kept hoping that luck was just around the corner. And then, I hit the jackpot - literally. My life changed instantly...but for the better or for the worse?

Meh

I’m a big fan of Stephanie Bond so I really wanted to like this series, but instead found myself struggling through it. The main character, Mallory, is impossible to relate to. Not only is she spineless but she’s a pushover as well. She lets herself be taken advantage of time and time again. She has no concept of self worth. What really bothers me is how she never stands up for herself, just lets everything happen to her. Many times I found myself yelling at her to stop being so stupid. I do have to applaud her selflessness on behalf of some friends although even that got a bit annoying.
The ending is sort of predictable but okay I guess. I was pretty disappointed in her and where she ends up but I can’t say I didn’t see it coming.
If you’re looking for a strong, womens empowerment type of story, save yourself the frustration and don’t choose this book.
