About this listen

Love and History

The sporty roommate, the professor, and a history lesson....

Holden

Ezra might be the most annoying roommate ever. He’s loud, obnoxious, and full of himself. So what if he’s a tall, muscular, tattooed jock? His tendency to strip to his boxers in the kitchen while helping himself to my food isn’t endearing in the slightest. Nope. Ezra has to go.

However, I have to admit, he’s the perfect fit to play the king for my historic reenactment event. Ezra in a royal robe…oh, this could be quite tantalizing indeed.

He won’t do it, though.

Unless I trick him into a history lesson.

Ezra

Holden is the kind of dude who wears top hats and great coats while teaching astrophysics to brainiacs. Weird, right? But I gotta respect that level of commitment. And I respect him.

Sadly, Holden doesn’t feel the same way about me.

I guess I can’t blame him. Cranking his gears has been a highlight of my stint in geek land. I’ve never seen anyone get riled about yogurt like him. He makes me laugh. And think. And he makes me want things I’d never thought possible.

So yeah, I’ll take that history lesson. If it leads to something more, I’m in.

Love and History is a Bi-awakening geek/jock romance featuring a messy law student, a picky professor, and a lesson neither will forget!

Love this series!

Wow…did Ezra come out of nowhere for everyone or was that just me? It was clear in the last book these two had some major chemistry with all their bickering, but they were so good together!

Ezra is a bit more complicated than anyone gave him credit for and not only is he sweet, but he’s also smart. It was hard to see him being a lawyer with the quick glimpse we got in the last book but as we learn more, it fits. He’s just an all-around good guy.

Holden is a science genius who appreciates art and history and understands their intersection. I wish he was my teacher when I was in college! He has been hurt in the past so he’s guarding his heart. He doesn’t trust that Ezra can be something permanent. It helps they were friends first and then lovers.

They have great snark and banter as well as emotional and sexual chemistry. I love them together!

It looks like this is the end of the series – at least according to what I’m seeing in other reviews. That makes me a little sad, but I’ll see what Ms. Hayes has in store for us next!

Alexander Cendese does a great job as always!

enjoyed it

📖 Story comment: easy pace, interesting characters, entertaining story.
Overall I enjoyed the story, I liked the slow build of the relationship (even though it did start out physical fairly early) and the banter between Holden and Ezra made for some amusing scenes.
Uncomplicated plot, so what I'd call an easy listen - a good story to listen to while doing something else without losing track of what's going on..
< [ℹ️] I haven't listened to any of the other titles in this series and I don't feel like I was missing anything>

🎧 Narrator comment: I enjoyed Alexander Cendese's narration, he suited the characters, has good cadence, inflections and intonations and it's easy to distinguish the characters from each other. I could almost hear Holden's eye-roll at Ezra's sarcasm in the dialogue 😆. Overall an enjoyable performance and he bought the book to life.

I'm sorry to see the series end.

The only thing that I can add to my recent review of the book from when I read it with my eyes, is to say what a wonderful job Alexander Cendese has done bringing all of the books and characters to life. After reading a Lane Hayes book I always say that the only thing that can make it better is to listen to it as an audiobook and this one certainly did not change my mind about that statement! 🥰🥰

Original review below:
The Script Club has been another great series from Lane Hayes. Each of the books has pretty much featured a jock and a nerd but each of the stories were very different – except for the falling in love part – and the stories never felt repetitive at all. One-by-one we’ve gotten to know the young men sharing a house and I’ve enjoyed reading about all of them. Now it’s Holden’s turn…

Holden and Ezra snipe at each other all the time and the other roommates think they can’t stand each other; even Holden and Ezra think they can’t stand each other until… they make a bet and then things start to happen.

Love and History isn’t really an enemies-to-lovers story – although it sort of has that vibe in the beginning – because Holden and Ezra don’t hate each other, they just seriously get on each other’s nerves. I really enjoyed watching them dance around each other and gradually come to the realization that they want to have sexy time together.

Holden helps Ezra finally admit that he’s bi and has been hiding that part of himself for too long. Ezra helps Holden lighten up a bit and not always be so serious. They really work together even though maybe they shouldn’t. Both of them have secrets from their past that impact how they interact with people and Lane Hayes did a great job of hinting at things before everything was revealed.

I love Lane Hayes writing and while this is the last book in The Script Club series, she’s hinted at another series that might allow us to revisit some of the club’s characters. I’m here for whatever she writes next.

A Nice Addition to the Series!

This audiobook was fun! Alexander Cendese's narration did a great job of bringing this story to life. The main characters, Holden and Ezra, were cute together once they started getting along. I loved the slow progression of Holden and Ezra's relationship. Their relationship began physically, but it soon turned into something more. The dynamic between the two was so endearing. I loved how witty and sarcastic Ezra and Holden were with each other. Ezra and Holden dealt with their battles in their ways, but in the end, their communication made them a strong couple. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

The last of the science nerds finds his match

For a fair way in, the pranks and snark flew between Ezra and Holden, because of course the way to show interest in someone is to be annoying. Seriously though, the two of them were on entirely different wavelengths until Ezra started helping out with Shakespeare in the Park, then the sexy times commenced. This couple, as well as the series, managed to wrap up in a fairly tidy bow by the end. Alexander Cendese does a good job narrating and his performance made the story a pleasure to listen to.

Don't Stare at the Big Guy!

This story and audible were so much fun my face hurts from smiling! I absolutely loved Ezra! I could just picture all his naked sloppy and bad habits! Holden did not stand a chance of resisting! The banter between them and all the previous couples and roommates was perfection! Alexander Cendese's narration had all the chemistry jumping out from the close friendships to the cutesy romance, to the sexy interactions! Perfectly paced with characters you just love to laugh with.

All good things must come to an end 😢

I have loved this series, with these super intelligent geeky boys, I'm truly going to miss them.

This was the first book in the series that I listened to instead of read. Alexander Cendese did a fantastic job as usual, his narration was spot on. Now I think I'm going to have to add the first 5 books in this series, to my Audible library. It's all Lane's and Alexander's fault!!!

I'm glad that Holden got his happily ever after.

The Script Club boys, that cool house they shared, all such fond memories. I loved the ending and how everything got tied up in a nice neat package with a bow on top.

Fabulous Story & Listen🎧 Delightfully Enjoyable!

I loved everything about this book, from Lane Hayes’ wonderful writing style to the fabulous characters and storylines to the perfectly cast narrator who brings it all to life from the pages to your ears. I have not had the pleasure to listen to the earlier books in the series and felt this book stood perfectly on its own, my only thoughts are why did it take me so long to find this series and I am looking forward to checking out the other books soon. This book is Holden and Ezra’s story and wow, what a story it is, an “opposites attract” romance with plenty of laugh out loud moments and witty dialogue that is brilliant. Holden, a science and history geek, a professor who teaches science who does historical reenactments. He is also has a way with words, which makes him even geekier, and yes, it is possible to be even geekier. His new housemate really frustrated Holden, the man has no boundaries and infuriates him, eats his food, prances around half naked, though not a hardship on the eyes, and really gets under his skin. Ezra, a law student and jock, likes his housemate, while he knows Holden does not feel the same, he is determined to change his feelings about him and he has a plan to do so, and yes, taunting him was part of that plan. I loved how everything played out in this wonderfully plotted and fast-paced story, it is the type of story that puts a smile on your face and keeps it there the entire book. There is a perfect balance of drama, humor, heartfelt emotions and some steamy romance. Lane Hays, thank you for another wonderful story, the laughs and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Alexander Cendese’s talent truly shines and he does an amazing job with these characters, going each their own voice, humanizing them with their personality and their emotions and has you feeling every single one. His portrayal of each character is spot on, from goofball Ezra to the quirky nerd, Holden, and is fabulous at performing the roles of the secondary characters too. He sets the perfect tone for the story, handles the witty dialogue with ease and land the humor effortlessly. Cendese is an entertaining storyteller and a versatile voice artist, his narration enhances an already brilliant story to another level. Thank you for another exceptional listen.

Cute and funny romance between the odd couple.

It seems like this is the last book of the Script Club series so it was sort of bittersweet listening to this book. Each book in the series is different from the last and I enjoyed getting to know the different characters. Holden and Ezra seem like the Odd Couple at first. Holden is a bit finnicky. When he isn't teaching astrophysics or participating in historical reenactments, he prefers things clean and orderly and hates when his roommate eats his food. Ezra is a law student and an intern and isn't a slouch in the brains department. But he lounges around in his underwear and often doesn't buy his share of the groceries. Holden's snobbery and Ezra's obnoxious behaviors really seem to be hiding the attraction they have for their opposite counterparts. It is a funny and cute romance that eventually builds but the lease on their house is ending and their career plans seem to be taking them to different places. Overall, it's an enjoyable series and I enjoyed listening to it. Alexander Cendese did a great job narrating.
