About this listen

As a leading columnist for Stiletto, Grace Brighton has built a career warning women about rotten, cheating liars. She just never suspected her fiancé would be one of them. After Grace takes a heart-mending hiatus, her first assignment is to go on a couple of dates with a counterpart from the men's magazine Oxford and report her impressions.

Grace one-point-zero may have been instantly smitten with the gorgeous correspondent, but Grace two-point-zero has sworn off relationships for six months, and she's not falling for his outstanding bod and trophy-winning kisses...or is she?

Jake Malone wants to get back to the fly-by-night, who-knows-what's-next guy he used to be, and he knows exactly how to do it. Oxford is adding a travel section, and Jake - with no wife and no kids and a willingness to live anywhere, eat anything, do everything - is perfect for the job...except that his playboy reputation makes his new editor nervous.

To get the gig, he must agree to a fluffy joint article with Stiletto. But after just one date with snooty, sumptuous, sensational Grace Brighton, Jake starts taking this assignment a whole lot more seriously.

Contains mature themes.

Critic reviews

"Spunky, flirty, and full of sass, Love the One You're With is everything a romance should be! Lauren Layne has a winner." (Christie Craig, New York Times best-selling author)

Fantastic read, even though I had it in audio, fantastic listen! Jake and Grace were perfect! They are paired for a project between magazines to date and what starts as a competition ends in something so much more. This was witty and full of fun and love. Definitely loving this series!

Well I made it to chapter six, and I just couldn’t take anymore. I switched to my Audm app, and listened to a true story about a vet who was severely wounded in the Iraqi war and made a miraculous recovery. It was way more interesting.

(Sigh)

Jake falls in love. Maybe grace does too but she becomes so unlikable. Hurting him at every turn. I don’t understand how he keeps coming back for more. I hated this book and stopped around chapter 14. Loved the first book in the series.

Grace, with her Grace 1.0 and Grace 2.0 voices in her head, got old really quickly. She’s supposed to be the foremost expert on men, she had written an article listing the top tips on how to spot if your man is cheating on you, and she didn’t spot them in her boyfriend of nine years. Even after that epic fail, she’s tasked with the dating/writing project to persuade readers that she knows men better than Jake knows women? Utterly ridiculous. It also drove me crazy that apparently she’s a first-rate actress at opportune times, turning on coyness and demureness when she’s feeling completely the opposite. The times when she should’ve been straight with Jake and she beat about the bush was aggravating, too.

All versions of Grace drove me nuts
